Ganked from [livejournal.com profile] taraljc, who ganked it from [livejournal.com profile] hawkmoth.

1. Do you have a favourite carol/hymn?

I think I'm going to have to go with "The First Noel." That one always makes me happy.

2. What are your three favourite holiday songs? If there's a particular version, name the artist.

"Come to Bethlehem Town" -- It's such a reminder of Christmas Eve for me.
"Silent Night" -- Because my grandma sang it to me when I was a kid. Now it makes me cry, because I'm a sap.
"I Want a Hippopotamus for Christmas" -- Because one year my uncle wouldn't stop singing it, and my sister and I got it caught in our heads, even though we only know the first verse and chorus.

3. What's your favourite holiday movie?

I'm not going to cheat and count The Nightmare Before Christmas as a holiday movie, even though it sort of is. I'm instead giving top rank to A Miracle on 34th Street, which is my absolute favorite. I cannot begin to tell you how much I adore this movie. The fact that someone decided to remake it is blasphemous. Without a young Natalie Wood, this movie just isn't the same.

I'd also like to point you all in the direction of Christmas in Conneticut, which is fabulous. Imagine Martha Stewart, fifty years ago, and have her be a complete sham. The woman can't do anything for herself, and suddenly she's forced into creating the world's greatest Christmas celebration. It's a great movie.

4. What's your favourite holiday TV special?

Because it was originally made for PBS, it's A Child's Christmas in Wales, starring Denholm Elliott. It's based off the Dylan Thomas poem, and it's the most wonderful thing I've ever seen. The ending always makes me tear up, it's just that gorgeous.

5. What's your favourite holiday tradition?

Besides decorating my mother's crazy Christmas tree? Watching A Child's Christmas in Wales with her (and whichever family member stays up to watch it with us) on Christmas Eve. Last year we couldn't find the tape, and it just didn't seem like Christmas Eve. If anyone knows where to get a copy of this, or has a copy they'd dub for me, please let me know. I give doll-ars.

6. What recent holiday trend/idea/fad do you absolutely hate?

I'm going to not write about Christmas starting months before the actual season (which I think EVERYONE hates), and instead go for my ultimate Christmas pet peeve. For the love of God, whoever started using "My Favorite Things" as a Christmas song deserves fifty lashings. This is NOT a Christmas song! This is a song from The Sound of Music, people! Have you seen the musical? Have you watched the movie? THIS HAS NOTHING TO DO WITH CHRISTMAS! STOP SINGING IT ALREADY! Thank you.
