Good weekend

I had a really good weekend with [livejournal.com profile] yakgirl and her family. It's really great spending time with my sister. She lives so far away that we only get to see each other a few times a year, at best. So being able to spend a whole weekend with her was really wonderful. Add on the bonus of it being her youngest son's birthday this weekend, and it was doubly good. We had a birthday party for him (with a Wall-E cake), played with his new Cars-themed GeoTrax sets, and yesterday carved jack-o-lanterns. Yeah, it's a bit early for that and the pumpkins will probably rot before Halloween, but seeing as how I won't have a jack-o-lantern at home this year, it was fun to carve them with her and the boys. Anyway, good times.

In other news, I'm thinking of cutting my hair. It's starting to get a bit unruly and too long for my liking. It tangles like crazy, and I think I want a change. [livejournal.com profile] yakgirl had out her son's baby book, and there were pictures of me from three years ago when I had a shag/bob haircut, and it was really cute. So I think I might cut my hair like that again, and donate my hair to cancer patients so it can become someone's wig.

And finally, tonight I may meet Julie Andrews. Yes, really. She's doing a special event at my husband's theater this evening, including a quick Q&A and (pre-signed) book signing. The event is sold out, but he talked with his bosses and the managers from the bookstore that's hosting the event, and they've said it's okay for him to try to get me backstage to meet her. DUDE. I won't even know what to say should I meet her. I grew up watching her movies and loving her. Seeing her in person, much less actually speaking with her, would be insane. I don't know if it will even happen, but man, that's definitely something to get me through my day.

PSA for Illinois folks

I just got an e-mail from my insurance agent, so this is legit. For any of you in Illinois, you can now put emergency contact info into the Secretary of State's database. This way, if you're in an accident or are incapacitated, the emergency response crew can scan the barcode on the back of your ID and get your emergency contact numbers instantly. Go here to add your emergency contact info.

In other news, a minivan taxicab just stopped in front of my building. The minivan taxicab has spinner hubcaps. I find this much more amusing than I should.
