Spam with lunch!

But not Spam for lunch... Speaking of food, I'm sitting here eating the last of my French fries, with mayo instead of ketchup.

[Poll #641499]

In other spam-worthy news, everyone's doing that fandom favorites meme thing today. So I'll do it, too. For Firefly/Serenity—what else?

Tell me of a fandom you know I know of and I'll tell you...
1. The first character I first fell in love with:
Kaylee, I think.
2. The character I never expected to love as much as I do now: Jayne.
3. The character everyone else loves that I don't: This used to be River. I just didn't get the River love (especially with "Objects in Space"). The movie totally reversed this, though.
4. The character I love that everyone else hates: A lot of people don't like Simon. No, really. I don't understand this, but it's true. Weird, huh?
5. The character I used to love but don't any longer: Not love a Firefly character? That's unpossible!
6. The character I would shag anytime: SimonSimonSimonSimonSimon!
7. The character I'd want to be like: Zoe. Totally.
8. The character I'd slap: Jayne. You know he'd like it, too.
9. A pairing that I love: Wash/Zoe. I love Simon/Kaylee, but Wash/Zoe are just wonderful. So subtle, so good.
10. A pairing that I despise: If we're talking fanon, it's Jayne/Simon. I'm sorry, but I just DO NOT see the slash on this show, especially not with those two. Jayne isn't into boys! He just ISN'T, and WOULDN'T be. If we're talking canon, it's Simon/River. (Watch the extras for "Our Mrs. Reynolds"—it's canon from River's end. And in "Safe," the subtext is so thick you can cut it with a spork.) I don't like the Crazy Space Incest. Squicky.

Heee. I love that almost all of our Firefly answers are exactly opposite (Space Incest 4-eva!). Although, we both kind of want to slap Jayne in the naughty way.

Jayne slapping: the one thing EVERY girl can agree on. ;)

You forgot ranch dressing. Mmmm, ranch on fries. Or anything, for that matter. Or honey. I like to dip my fries in honey/honey mustard that's for the chicken.

Simon/River is canon?!?!? *hasn't watched extras yet*

Simon/River is canon?!?!?

Sort of. Check the deleted scene from "Our Mrs. Reynolds." River gets Book to marry her and Simon, since they already love each other. Simon tries to explain that brother/sister love isn't the same as married love, but then Mal and YoSafBrig show up and interrupt the crazy. Then, while everyone is distracted, she puts a pillow under her shirt to pretend she's pregnant. Once everyone is gone but Simon, she tells him "Now we have to be married. I'm in the family way." It's absolutely horrific, but funny. Except that people do enjoy the CSI, which I still find squicky.

Oh, yeah. Anything to touch Jayne.

And while I tend to agree with [livejournal.com profile] swsa on most of it, I'm with you on the Crazy Space Incest. I understand why it gets shipped, but I'm so not into that. Or the slash. And again, not against slash as a rule (while it's not my cuppa, I totally understand those who ship Spike and Angel), but I really don't see it in Firefly. Like, at all.

I was just saying the same thing with [livejournal.com profile] familyarchives last night. Like, we just don't see the slash in the 'verse. And if we do, it's totally Inara/Kaylee. I'll readily admit I'm not a slash fan (except with SV where it runs rampant), but it's especially hard to see it here. Jayne ain't a pitcher, and he's definitely not a catcher. He'd beat Simon within an inch of his life before doing anything with him. The same goes for Mal. And let's just not bring Wash or Book into this argument, either. ;)
