The Internet is back!

And so is cable TV! Hooray! And just in time for TV show finales!

So I'll admit that I just haven't been feeling HIMYM this season. Not really. To be completely honest, Marshall is pretty much the only character I can handle. (And of course Barney, because Barney is awesome. That should go without saying.) Anyway, I have to admit that this season finale was pretty good. It felt true to the characters. Ted dyes his hair blond and looks like a douche, which is what Ted does best. Red cowboy boots, anyone? Barney is still trying to figure out new ways to pick up chicks, hence the taxi. Robin is struggling between her career and her love life. And then there's Marshall and Lily, trying to figure out whether or not they want to or should have a baby. This episode felt natural for the characters, unlike so many other episodes I've seen this season. And Ted's little speech to Robin at the end, about how she's a different person now than she was before, that's true for most of the characters on the show... save for Ted. I don't see much difference in him. He's still the same hopeless romantic with a big douche coating that he's always been. But that's okay, because it works in context of all the other characters.

Best part of the episode: Barney as the Estonian street performer. AWESOME.

As for TBBT, I really have to say this has become my go-to show for laughs. This show is just FUNNY. Poor Leonard, trying to figure out the double standard of hooking up with exes. Oh, you clueless fool... But that's completely overshadowed by the last five minutes of the show. SHELDON MEETS THE SHE-SHELDON. OMG. I knew it was going to happen, but I had no idea how freaking brilliant it would play out. Oh, Mayim Bialik, I didn't know I missed you!

In other news, I finished Silver Borne the other day. It took me only two evenings to whip through that puppy. Good book. First off, I'm glad the cat's not dead. Second, OF COURSE as soon as I was all "No fae courts, kthnxbye!" they showed up in the next chapter. Baaaaaah. I do not like the stupid fairy queens. Blah blah blah boring. Third, I love that Samuel found something to live for, but did it have to be the deus ex machina of an ex-girlfriend? How convenient that the random fairy lady just HAPPENED to be his ex. :\ See what I mean about the fairies just showing up to fill a gap in the stories? This is why I don't enjoy the fairy storylines in these books -- they're just too convenient.

Despite these protestations, I still enjoyed it. Hooray for the awesome werewolf power plays, complete with to-the-death challenges. Very cool. And hooray for seeing Mercy and Jesse work together. She's Mercy's almost-stepdaughter, and while they've always been buddies, it's good to see them interact more. And I'm glad to see Mercy finally being brought into the pack. That's also good. I just hope that in the next book, there will be less fairies and more werewolves. I hope Briggs doesn't wear herself thin, either, writing both this series and Alpha & Omega. I fear that one will take over as the werewolf-heavy books, and the Mercy Thompson series will become more all-encompassing urban fantasy. Worse yet, I fear it will veer off into romance novel trappings. Don't do me wrong, Briggs!

I must have more things to talk about, but I'm not sure what they are. Oh, Sex and the City 2 is coming out this weekend, and I'm not embarrassed to say that I plan on seeing it. Come on. An entire theater filled with drunk ladies all simultaneously cooing over Carrie Bradshaw's crazy-gorgeous shoes? Yes, please. Sure, the characters are mostly despicable. I don't care. I will be seeing it. Too bad I can't go to the midnight showing like last time. The entire theater lobby was filled with drunk women in their mid-30s to late 40s, all dressed like hos and drinking pink cocktails. That was an experience.

Oh, everyone has to go here and read this post about hilarious mistakes from term papers. [livejournal.com profile] aunt_deen is a teacher friend of [livejournal.com profile] jennlavigne, who in turn is a teacher and my sister ([livejournal.com profile] yakgirl)'s BFF. So I promise you this isn't one of those "stupid things students wrote" e-mail chains that gets passed around year after year. These are fresh mistakes, all about Beowulf and Aragorn and romantic poets. And Hitler. Of course, there's Hitler. Just go read. It's good for some LOLs.
