Language/political stuff

First off, there's a new book that seems rather interesting. I bet the author also hates "grow the economy."

In other news, four cabinet members have resigned, including Colin Powell (note to him: it's COL-in, not CO-lin, dammit!) and education secretary Rod Paige. ::does dance of joy at the second one:: With Powell's resignation, this probably means Condoleeza Rice gets his spot. Hmmm.

To be absolutely fair to Colin Powell I saw an interview with him years ago saying that he pronounced it COL-in but that the media had started calling him CO-lin and he wasn't sure why.

Thank God. The other night my mom and I were gnashing our teeth over this, and I was all, "What's his brother's name, SPLEEN?" And then Mom was all, "Yeah, and his sister's name is Uterus."

...We thought it was funny...

Hehe, your mom rocks! But you already knew that. ;)

He laments the inclusion of such words as "pertannually" in the proposed EU constitution -- and despairs that when concerns were raised, the word was replaced with "insubdurience."

Hee! I thought he was just complaining because the words are so obscure, but according to Dictionary.com, neither of those words exist. wtf?!?

I'm just stunned that Powell lasted THIS long. Farewell, lone voice of reason. I know you won't miss being trotted out onto the Sunday morning talk shows to explain some heinous comments that Dick Rumsfeld made and that you have to pretend to agree with. Hope your balls grow back soon.
