The pressure!

Tonight Dad told me what he wants for Christmas. This is a big order to fill. Okay, so when my parents went on their last halfway-across-the-country driving vacation, I made a few CDs of stuff for them to listen to on the way. Well, Dad really liked the stuff I put together, and now he's asked if I could make him a bunch of music mixes now that he has a car of his own. (He and Mom have been sharing since he retired, but he picked up his new one today.) Now I have to troll through all of my music and try to pick out stuff I think Dad will like. What the hell kind of music does my dad listen to? I figure anything played on the "adult pop/rock" radio station here in town is fair game, right? But man, disc after disc of stuff like Howie Day and Los Lonely Boys and the Goo Goo Dolls, I'd like to give him something with a bit more oompf. A hard rock mix, with stuff like Tool and Audioslave on it, or a disc of mellow stuff for when he's dealing with bad traffic, with bands like Zero 7 or Morcheeba. But I don't know how well that would go over...

Any suggestions?

Also, my cat has just discovered the joy of bubble wrap. Hee!

I got nothing other than the oldies (but goodies): CCR, Eagles, Barry Manilow.

Heh. ;)

AHHHHHH!!!!! Barry Manilow! Barry Manilow!!! I need to see Dad driving down the street, singing his heart out: "OH MANDY!!! You came and you gave without taking!!!" It would be just like Homer Simpson!!! He needs to become a "fanilow"!

Actually, seeing as how Dad can't stay on key to save his life, him singing "Mandy" would be exactly like when Angel sang it at Lorne's karaoke bar. Eeeeek!

FYI

Hey-- I think I told you, but I got Dad some more Cuban music and the Blind Boys from Alabama-- he told me he wanted those. I'll try to wrack my brain and figure out something else for him.

Did I spell "wrack" correctly???

I think you did spell it correctly. Don't worry.

And yes, I know you're getting him that. I'm trying to find current stuff that I think he'd like. I was debating on Los Lonely Boys, but you never can tell with Dad, you know? I figure anything they play on WTMX (http://www.wtmx.com) is a safe bet. Seriously, last night I compared their playlists to my iTunes catalog to find matches, and then threw it all into a big file for him. Ack. This is hard.

OK, I don't know if this matters, but Pooflung's parents bought the LLB album (even though it's technically a CD) and love it. They enjoy smooth jazz from time to time, which Dad used to like, but they play LLB on CMT as well as VH1, so maybe it's one of those good, genre-bending, easy listening, entertaining albums. Give it a whirl. What the hell.

Cool! I'll have to pick that up, then. Maybe for his birthday? Thanks for the tip!
