Anyone have $14,000 to spare?
I didn't go to see Serenity last night as planned. I was exhausted after not getting to bed till 3 a.m. on Friday night (technically Saturday morning), so I took a nap in the middle of the day yesterday. Then I went up to the north side to snag BJ. We went out to dinner, and when it was over I asked what time it was, fully expecting him to say it was 10:00 or something. It was 8:30. We were both exhausted, and the next screening of Serenity didn't start till 10:30, which was too long to wait. So we ended up going back to his place to hang out and watch movies. But first he took me to see the condo that's for sale in his building.
I love this condo. It's perfect. It's everything I want in my own place. Dishwasher, parking, enough room for all my stuff, a beautiful building, and a great neighborhood that I love. It also has a skylight, a fireplace, hardwood floors, and quite a bit of storage. It's really lovely. I guess it's been on the market for *forever,* and the owner has already taken $20,000 off the price. It hasn't sold because frankly, the owner has it decorated badly and it doesn't show well. I guess she's taking it back off the market at the end of the month and will keep it off for 3 months, then put it back on. She's desperate to sell. BJ guarantees that if I can get enough money together for a downpayment, I can finagle another $5,000 to 10,000 off the asking price. This would bring the cost down to $270,000, which is a HUGE amount of money, but is still a really good deal for a) that building and b) what it has to offer. It's really exactly what I want in a condo. Exactly. And the building is great: on the historic register, low assessment fees, and since BJ is on the condo board, he knows that there aren't any problems at all with the building. This means no special assessments will be popping up, and even if there were they have enough money saved that they wouldn't have to call for a special assessment. God, I wish I had more money. I'm nowhere close to having enough for a downpayment, which really is a bummer. Though I will say: now that I've seen a condo that I love but can't afford, this makes me MUCH more dedicated to saving money for a condo next year. God, why don't I have $14,000 to throw at this condo? :(
In happier news, I'll be squandering my money today to go see The Corpse Bride and Serenity with my mom. I need to call her and make sure it's still on. The first movie starts at 2:30, I think, so I better book if I want to make it.
