Weekend wrap-up
Please humor me for a moment and let me get this out: EAT IT, PATRIOTS!!! YOU ARE NOT GOING TO THE SUPERBOWL AND WE ARE! TAKE THAT! BEAR DOWN, CHICAGO BEARS! WOOOOOOOOOOO! (I hope my sister will enjoy rubbing it in her neighbors' faces that da Bears are going to the Superbowl and Tom Brady isn't. Ha ha!)
Now that that's out of the way... Life is pretty good. It's been a nice weekend. Friday night I went over to the Scientist's place and we watched Jake 2.0. On Saturday we stopped by his lab so that he could take some DNA out of the deep freezer and put it into the regular freezer. Or something. From there, he and I joined his parents in Chinatown for lunch. None of his siblings came along, so it was just the four of us. It was nice just to chat with his parents a bit, get to know them a bit better. His dad was nice and chatty, telling us all about his last trip to Wushu and Hong Kong, and his mom was as nice as ever. And Chinatown is quite fun. I've only been there once before, which is pretty stupid considering how long I've lived around Chicago. But now I know of a great place for lemon chicken, if anyone's interested.
After that we went up to Evanston to Greg & Kirsti's place, as they were hosting Movie Dictator this month. The first movie was Female Space Invaders, aka Starcrash, aka The Adventures of Stella Star. It was complete and utter crap in the way that only Movie Dictator movies can be. Then Steve@theMovies brought along a copy of Don Hertzfeld's latest animated opus, Everything Will Be OK, which was bizarre and depressing and hilarious all at the same time. (For those of you not in the know, Hertzfeld is the guy behind Rejected, the hilarious and bizarre animated short from which this icon was made.) After that was Withnail & I, which probably would have been funnier had we watched it all. But
deeablo and I had a previous engagement, so we took off with the Scientist to head to...
angelchicken's place. She was having a big housewarming thing at her new swanky condo, so we went down to the Gold Coast and searched for parking. deeablo trekked over to AC's and the Scientist and I kept circling, but then AC called to say there was parking in her building. Sweet! So we parked, went upstairs, and checked out AC's lovely apartment. It's all white and pretty with a side view of the lake, and it's totally Rear Window the way she looks out into four other apartment buildings. I'd be there in the dark with a telescope all the time, just because I could be. Anyway,
taraljc was there, and I haven't seen her in forever, so that was super cool. We sat around chatting for quite a bit, and we met AC's friend from work whose boyfriend is a vice cop busting hookers, and then her French friend Leeloo. I'm sure that's not the way she spells it, but that's the way I see it in my head. (Of course, ljc was all "Leeloo Dallas Multipass!", which made me smirk in return because I was thinking the same thing.) Anyway, it was a fabulous party with tons to eat and drink, and AC looked lovely in her little black top and fancy red shoes. And I saw her infamous pink closet. Very nice.
As for today, I went out to my parents' house for a bit, did some shopping with Mom, and then headed home to hang with
fava_bean. We graded her students' papers together because I like wielding the power of the Red Pen. Then we watched Pirates 2, so that was good. And we drank blackberry wine, which was also very good.
So yeah, that's my weekend. How's yours, everyone?

And if I weren't from Chicago I'd be all "Oh, it would have been nice for the Saints to make it to the Superbowl." But I am from Chicago, so I'm all "GO BEARS!" instead, and not feeling guilty or nuthin'. That's right.

Well, go Bears for beating the Saints. I laughed when Mr. Sun told me they played the Superbowl Shuffle.

I was in Chinatown for the first time ever three weeks ago. I don't remember the place we ate in, but it was really busy. Which is why we ate there.
