Fashion! Turn to the left...

Fashion! Turn to the right...

I want to buy a dress. I want to be all flirty and girly and wear cute dresses. I also have a baptism/birthday party in two weeks, and I need to find something cute. The problem is that I'm not a small girl, and so my shopping opportunities are a bit limited. My old standby, Lane Giant (™[livejournal.com profile] xica_s), has unfortunately taken a turn for the worse, and lately their clothes are quite hideous and bland. This has led me to do some window shopping online.

Right now this dress is my top choice. I love the colors, and they have it in my size. That said, I don't shop at Torrid often at all, so I don't know how their clothes may fit me. Luckily, it seems that the mall by my mom's house has just opened a store, so hopefully I can try some stuff on this weekend and see how their clothes work on me. But I really like this dress. It's just so summery!

I am also a big fan of this dress. It has cherries on it! Not quite summery, though. Still, super-cute!

And then there's this dress. I am IN LOVE with this dress. Unfortunately, it's $106. Ouch. Whenever I look at the price, in my head I hear my mother saying "I could make that dress for $20! I have a pattern just like that somewhere..." But this dress is just too adorable for words.

OMG, this dress kills me dead. But it's nearly $200. But isn't it just gorgeous??? It's obviously too fancy for just a summer dress, but it's SO AWESOME I want to die.

Then I found a store on eBay that has gorgeous little summer dresses as well. Check these out:

Add a light cardigan, and I could totally wear these to work, too. All of these dresses are between $25 adn $28, plus shipping. I'd snatch these up in an instant, except that the seller only takes PayPal, and I've never managed to get my PayPal account working properly. Yes, really. I'm so inept when it comes to all things PayPal. But aren't they cute?

ETA: I just bought the one in the last photo. Yay!

That blue taffeta is OMG 2DIE. I haven't bought a new summer outfit since my cousin Tick's wedding last March... Now I want to go shopping at the Target (they have some great stuff, if you're willing to pick through the vast selection). Alas, it is not to be, as I'll be out all week-end.

So cute! I want one of each, thanks.

I need a girly/shopping icon.

Now that I've met your mom, I can picture her saying that as well. *g* She seems cool.

I really like the last one and the 2nd dress from the little eBay store.

Lane Giant has reached epic levels of suck. They keep sending me those damn coupons but I refuse to shop there ever again. I hate their ill-fitting stupid boring ugly matronly expensive clothes.

That dress looks scarily similar to a dress I wanted for the Green Tie Ball last year but I ended up not going. I AM going this year though...where is that from?

That last eBay dress in too too adorable.

I can't help with the sizing at Torrid. I see things I like online but when I'm in the store I feel underwhelmed so I've never bought anything from there.

You're not as busty as me so perhaps try Ann Taylor Loft? I find things that fit me everywhere BUT the boobs so maybe you'll have better luck. They tend to be drowning in neutrals lately but their dresses are very very cute.

That gorgeous Marilyn Monroe-style dress is from Igigi (http://www.igigi.com), which was recommended before by either [livejournal.com profile] embitca or [livejournal.com profile] starkeymonster, I can't remember whom. Anyway, they have some lovely clothes, but all on the really expensive side.

I've never shopped at Ann Taylor Loft. I think I'm always just assumed that their clothes were too small for me.

And I'm really seriously thinking about getting a few of those dresses off eBay. Two dresses there for the cost of one at Torrid, and the seller has a 97.5% satisfaction rate. As long as I could return them for a different size if they didn't fit, I think this may be the way to go.

As my mom always says, "You can't make a dress for that price!" Except that she probably could, but the pattern and fabric would have to be on sale.

That last dress is my favorite, too.

Polka dots! Buy the polka dots! (It's by far the cutest.) And do you have a fancy event coming up where you could wear that gorgeous blue one with the wrap? Frankly, if you stay more or less the same size consistently, I think you should buy it anyway and just hang on to it 'til you need it, because it's really fab.

Have you been to Forth & Towne? I know they have a store in Chicago -- it's the new store in the Gap/Banana/Old Navy empire, and the clothes are probably at the Banana price point and style, but they have a larger range of sizes (up to 20 in the store). They have some really really cute dresses right now, so you should check them out (but quickly, because the stores are all closing by the end of June).

Ooh, I *love* the dress that you bought. I think the cherries might be my favourite. Actually I like almost all of them from that ebay store. Curse my short-waisted inability to pull-off a dress.

email the seller with your measurements and she could probably tell you which of her dresses would fit you. ???

I like the very first dress and the very last dress. Buy both!!

I'll have to check out those other sites -- I could use a summer dress myself.

I am loving all those dresses from ebay. Do you happen to have a link? :)

[identity profile] eee1313.livejournal.com 2007-05-11 01:31 am (UTC)(link)
I don't have a direct link, but if you search the eBay stores for "garinvaplus," you'll find it.

That works! Thanks so much. I love the one you got. And the black one too!

This season is all about dresses and I love it. So many pretty ones to choose from. I don't know how decided on which one you were going to buy but I like the you picked. Pretty and cute!
