MERRY CHRISTMAS, EVERYONE!!!

Or, alternately, if you don't celebrate Christmas, MERRY TODAY! You know, whatever. To all of those on my flist who are Jewish, I hope you had a lovely Hannukah. And happy Soltice and Kwanzaa, too, whenever those are.

Let's see, what's up? Things have been busy. Thursday night I went to the Scientist's boss's house for a Christmas dinner party. They got me a gift! It was very nice. Friday I went downtown to meet him (the Scientist, not his boss) and his family. We went to the Christkindlmarket, saw the windows at Macy's Marshall Field's, and then went for lunch at the Grand Lux Cafe. It was a good time. Then he came back to my place with me, where I had [livejournal.com profile] fava_bean, Debbie, and Craig over for Christmas gift exchanging and dinner. I made ham with sweet potatoes, pears, peaches, cherries, and bananas, as well as red potatoes, salad, and brownies with peppermint ice cream for dessert. It was a lot of fun. Saturday I gave the Scientist a lift home, my cat pooped in the car (again), and then came over to my parents' house. There was last-minute gift buying, and I even braved Toys R Us. Amazing! Then that night I went to the Scientist's friends' Christmas party, where there was both a Secret Santa (I got Clerks II) and a White Elephant (there was an honest-to-God dick in a box!), as well as homemade canollis. Heaven. Yesterday was cleaning and baking and dealing with Grandma (who wanted to go to bed at noon) and making stockings and the annual viewing of A Child's Christmas in Wales at 11:00, so we finished up just as Christmas Day started. Today I woke up at 5:00, and I made two pumpkin pies while Mom cleaned and stuffed the turkeys. I'm going to try for a mincemeat pie as well. Yakgirl, Poo-flung, and their kids are supposed to be here around 3:00. My friend Karen is joining us a bit before then, as her family is full of poopheads and so she's celebrating with us. The Scientist may be joining us for dinner, or possibly just dessert. Until then, it's all about cleaning and cooking. Hooray!

So yeah, that's life around here. I hope everything is going well with all of you. May you have a wonderful holiday surrounded by people you love.
