Ramblings

I don't have an appropriate fall/Halloween icon (I know, right?), so I'm using Marcus from Terminator Salvation, with his face all messed up. It's not a zombie, people, you should know how much I hate zombies. Now, robot men with their skin all melted off, I'm fine with that.

Anyway, I'm thinking about Halloween because yesterday I got two party invitations (thank you both!) and I can't go to either party. That's when I'll be on vacation with the entire clan of in-laws, and I'll be spending Halloween on a (motherfucking) boat. No one could actually answer the question of whether or not there will be Halloween activities on said cruise, and if we should have costumes. But I just got an e-mail from the cruise line saying that it's on, so now I need a costume. Mind you, I need a costume that a) won't be overly complicated, b) can fit into a suitcase and travel well, as well as not take up much space, c) is cheap, and d) won't be too heavy to wear in the Caribbean. The Scientist recently mentioned that once he went to a party dressed entirely in stuff he "borrowed" from the lab he was working in, including scrubs and a lab coat, and everyone loved it. So I looked around online and there are some places where you can order scrubs for less than $30 for both him and me (without shipping, of course). There's also a place one town over that sells them and isn't a wholesaler, so if all else maybe I could check out what they have and figure out what size works for me. I hate ordering online when I don't know if the sizing will work, especially when we're under a time crunch. But I figure doing as a doctor and nurse would work, considering the scrubs can double as pajamas after the fact. Is this a good plan? Y/N?

What else? This week at work has been ridiculously stressful, so I'm glad it's almost over. And moreso, I'm glad that I'll be going to see my sister and her family this weekend. Yay! [livejournal.com profile] yakgirl has been holding Mega Shark vs. Giant Octopus on her DVR specifically for this visit. It should be good times.

It is rainy and gray and poopy outside. The drive home tonight is going to suck. I don't actually mind this weather, though, as long as it doesn't impede my flight getting off the ground tomorrow morning.

Speaking of mornings, this morning when I was in the shower, the Scientist got up and made biscuits and gravy for breakfast. Mmmm! That was a great way to start my day.

I know there was more I wanted to talk about... Tonight is Stargate Universe. I watched it last week with the Scientist and was unimpressed. I'm calling it Lost in Battlestargate, as it's Lost in Space meets Battlestar Galactica meets Stargate. Frankly, I don't have much interest in watching it again. I'm actually pretty burned out on TV. Lately nothing has impressed me. Even my beloved Project Runway just isn't doing it for me, as you can probably tell from my lack of PR updates. Maybe it's the temporary judges being meaner than usual during judging, maybe it's that all of the designers with actual personalities are already gone (I miss you, Ra'Mon-Lawrence!), maybe it's just that we've waited so long for this season that the bloom is off the rose... I dunno. All I know is, there's very little TV that keeps me entertained these days. I guess I'll have to go back to reading books. GASP!

Anyway, it's that time. Thanks for listening to me ramble. Have a good weekend, everyone!

I am really behind on my Project Runway wrap-ups. And I'm behind on the show, too. Last week I was feeling so ill that I actually didn't watch, and chose to sleep instead. I know, right? So on Thursday I'll be watching the rerun of episode 5, as well as the next episode 6.

Anyway, in case you care, here's what happened.

Episode 3, with pictures. )

Episode 4, with pictures. )
eee1313: (Tim Gunn & the Emporer)
So, last night was super Project Runway night, and Lifetime milked every drop out of it. Margaret Cho welcomes Heidi and Tim! The Army Wives say "Make it work!" Yet there were still commercials for Top Chef on Bravo, so it didn't seem very different at all.

First, let's talk about the All-Star Challenge. Spoilers inside! )

The new season, the first episode, now with spoilers AND pictures! )

Finally, I did not watch Models of the Runway, so I have no thoughts on that matter.

PR PSA

eee1313: (Tim Gunn & Andrae)
Just a reminder that Project Runway starts again TONIGHT! Tim Gunn, yay!!! So at 8:00 EST/7:00 CST, there's the Project Runway: All-Star Challenge that goes for two hours. Then at 10:00 EST/9:00 CST there's the first episode of the new season. Following that at 11:00 EST/10:00 CST there's Models of the Runway, a half-hour spinoff focusing on the girls modeling the clothes. ("Remember, models, it's a competition for you, too!") And yes, remember that PR is now on Lifetime and not Bravo.

I don't want to be spoiled for who's going to be in the All-Star Challenge, but I hope to God Andrae and Santino will appear together again. Oh, how I loved those two; the LOLs never stopped. Except when Andrae would cry, which was often. But even that was funny after a while.
eee1313: (Tim Gunn & Andrae)
Lifetime wins Project Runway.

Considering the date, I'm half inclined to think this isn't for real. It will be very odd to see commercials for Nora Roberts movies while waiting for Tim Gunn to impart his wisdom on the designers.
eee1313: (Tim Gunn & the Emporer)
Project Runway nitwit Kenley Collins arrested for assualt with a cat! Link here. What would Tim Gunn say???

Thanks to [livejournal.com profile] jrs1980 for the tip.

Hello, Internet and 3D friends! How are you doing? I miss you all. I feel like I'm never on LJ at all any more. Trust me when I say that I'm reading your LJs, I'm just really out of the loop when it comes to commenting. So congratulations to some of you, I'm really jealous of others of you who went to Comic Con, I'm sorry some of you are having/have had really bad days, and I hope those of you who are sick are feeling better.

I am actually feeling better. I'm none too pleased with my new doctor, who kept me waiting for 45 minutes to see me for less than 5. According to her, I do not have a sinus infection, but just a really bad cold. Hmmm, the last time I checked, you don't cough up red, yellow, green, or orange when you have a cold. You also don't run a fever for two days, or almost lose your voice entirely. When she told me that, I replied "You are going to give me some antibiotics, aren't you?" For real, bitch, gimme some drugs. Which she did. I'm on day 2 of a 5-day pack. The horrible terrible pain in my left cheek and upper jaw is starting to go away, so that's a plus. Hopefully I'll be back to normal soon.

Work is driving me CRAZY today. OMG. Someone needs to tell the fucking copywriters that when they proof our work, they DO NOT get to make calls on how we do our design. It wouldn't bother me as much if they weren't so damn smug about it. Also, we're about a week behind right now. Stop sending files back for another round of review if all you're making us do is bottom-align the footer with the page number instead of center aligning it. It's literally ONE cursor stroke down. LET IT GO. We need to get this shit out the door, people. What don't you understand about that? Gah. Everyone in my department is ready to snap, I swear. I'm so glad I only have six days there. I mean, I enjoy the work, and I like the people I'm working with directly, but these copywriters need to LAY OFF.

Aaaaaaaaaand done!

Oh! So next week I'm taking a day off work to go see [livejournal.com profile] yakgirl. Yay! Her husband is at a conference in Michigan, and so she's going to be at our parents' house with her kids. The Scientist and I are driving up there after work and will spend the next day playing hooky with them. I am very much looking forward to seeing them, as I only get to see them about twice a year. This will make it three times for 2008 (the wedding, this, and again at Christmas). I hate that she lives so far away. I'd love to have her just come over and hang at my place, and I'd love to be able to see her kids grow up more, and have them get to know me better. But hey, that's life. At least I'll get to see them a little bit.

Project Runway in 15 minutes! I missed tonight's episode because I stayed late at work today, and then picked up dinner to take to the Scientist. He's pulling another double at the theater, so we had a "date" of eating take-out in the manager's office.

Oh, I applied for a new name via the Social Security office. Within 10 days, I'll get my new card and will officially go from being "eep" to being "eee." Woo!

Anyway, that's really about all I got. How are all of you?
eee1313: (Tim Gunn & Andrae)
New Project Runway last night, which debuted to little fanfare. Here are my opinions thus far:

Spoilers? )

I'm just looking forward to the episode where Tim says Tan Guy's outfit looks like "a pterodactyl in a gay Jurrasic Park." BWA! Oh, Tim.
eee1313: (Zoolander - jitterbug)
So last night's Project Runway had the ultimate event happen: a walk-off between Chris and Rami. If only David Bowie had been there to judge...

The results, with big pictures. )

Anyway, that's that. Next week is the runway show. I haven't watched any of the behind-the-scenes stuff, so I want to go completely unspoiled for the whole thing. Yay!
eee1313: (HIMYM - Anti-spoiler device)
PROJECT RUNWAY SPOILERS HERE! )

This has probably already broken all over the place, but it's the first I've read of it, so there you are.

ETA: Does anyone else laugh maniacally when the "Top Reality Show Moments on Bravo" or whatever commercials come on, and you hear Santino doing his Tim Gunn impression? "Where's Andrae?" Bwa ha ha ha!
eee1313: (Tim Gunn & Andrae)
It's another Project Runway rundown, and now we're down to 8 designers. (I didn't review the seventh episode, because my beloved Kevin was eliminated for creating a prom dress that made the girl look "too old." Granted, it was not very attractive, but his dismissal still pisses me off, especially with that excuse. What girl wants to go to prom looking her age? The whole point is to dress up and try to look older. Duh.)

Crazy fashions this week! )
eee1313: (Tim Gunn & Andrae)
It's Project Runway time again, boys and girls! All about last night's episode. )
eee1313: (Tim Gunn & the Emporer)
Regarding last night's Project Runway... spoilers ahead )

And is it just me, or is it hard to get "involved" with the designers this year? I don't really care about any of them as people yet. When the commercial came on with Nick from season 3, I was all "EEEEE NICK!!!" I don't really think the designers this season have the emotional pull that previous years' designers did. Maybe it's just too early in the season, I don't know.
eee1313: (Tim Gunn & Andrae)
I actually got to watch last night's Project Runway, which was interesting. They've never done menswear before, and that's probably a good thing because it was tough, and the designers struggled A LOT.

Spoilers and photos )

In other news, I saw Enchanted last night and freaking LOVED it. Everyone has mad love for Amy Adams, but personally I think James Marsden stole the show. He was just so EARNEST as a charming prince, it was ridiculous. Loved it all. And I laughed really hard a few times. Definitely recommended.
eee1313: (Tim Gunn & Andrae)
So, no one on my flist seems to be talking about Project Runway. What's wrong with everyone? Are people not watching anymore? What, you don't have any desire to see people FREAK OUT while SEWING? Come on, it doesn't get any better than that.

Talk about last night's episode. )
eee1313: (Tim Gunn & the Emporer)
Tonight is the premiere of season 4 of Project Runway on Bravo. HOORAY!!! This is the one reality TV show I go crazy for. Though this year will be weird, because it will be the first season I haven't watched with my mom. Last year I'd go over to my parents' house every Wednesday night, have dinner, do laundry, and then watch my dad scuttle away when we'd switch to Bravo. Then Mom and I would make bitchy comments about the contestants, coo over gorgeous designs, and cackle at the bad ones. Sometimes [livejournal.com profile] xica_s would text me during the show, and I'd read her comments to my mom. It was fun. And as a tribute to our shared love of Project Runway, I just bought my mom the Tim Gunn talking bobblehead for Christmas. I figure she'll get a kick out of it, and she'll keep it in her sewing room for inspiration.

Anyway, yes. Project Runway.

In other news, I just got a call from my former landlord, who is returning my FULL security deposit, along with a check for the interest gained on said security deposit. That's over $1100. AWESOME. I am very pleased by this turn of events.

Last night the Scientist and I went to the gym again. I didn't push as hard as I had on Sunday morning, but I did put in 2.5 miles on the elliptical, and 5 miles on the bike as a cool-down. So that's good.

What else? Tonight we're off in search of Lynfred's cranberry wine for Thanksgiving. The winery closes before we can get up there, but supposedly there's a store in the next town that sells it. We shall see...

Tomorrow after work we're having dinner with my aunt and uncle at Shaw's Crab House. Not cheap. But seeing as how I haven't seen these relatives since early last summer, I'll deal. Plus, the food should be good. This does, however, mean we won't be seeing Beowulf in 3D (for free) that night.

Saturday we're going to the Museum of Science & Industry to see the Star Wars exhibit. That's the same day Chicago is having the Lights Festival, so traffic getting into the city should be a bitch. However, we'll be leaving before the festival begins, so hopefully heading back out won't be as bad. That night we're going to a dinner/costume party. The theme is "80s cartoons." I'm going as a Snork, which means I have to fashion a snorkle out of a cardboard tube, a headband, some paint, and glue. The Scientist is going as a Smurf, which means he still needs a white hat and blue face paint. I have no idea when we'll do this.

And on Saturday SUNDAY [livejournal.com profile] fava_bean is having her "Urban Family Thanksgiving." A bunch of people (including [livejournal.com profile] mei_x, [livejournal.com profile] aj, and [livejournal.com profile] fishdoctorpost) will be coming. This means I have to make food. I wish I had the time to do a pumpkin pie, but that just isn't possible. :( Oh well. It will be fun nonetheless.
eee1313: (Tim Gunn & Andrae)
I should have posted early, but I forgot. Tonight Bravo is airing the first episode of Tim Gunn's Guide to Style airs tonight on Bravo, 9 pm CST. I love Tim Gunn. LOVE HIM. I think perhaps I should tape this for my mom, just in case she misses it.

New family drama. )

In other news, this Monday I'm going to the Graph Expo here in Chicago. This will be my third year going. We're hoping to get there early enough on Monday to secure our seats for Adobe's free seminar. Considering we just made the switch over to CS3, and starting tomorrow I'll begin on InCopy, hanging out at their booth for some tricks and tips sounds like a good idea. Then, per the norm, Debra and I will roam around the large-scale printers, hoping to score movie posters or ginormous maps of the world (like the one I gave to the Scientist last year). I wish I could find something that cool again, but I doubt it.

***

The Scientist and I are still thinking of Jamaica for our honeymoon. I mentioned this to my friend Nancy at work, and it seems she has a relative who's visited the resorts several times and has nothing but rave reviews about them. So Nancy's going to e-mail the aunt and find out what her thoughts are on the matter. I think the Scientist and I will have to talk about it more, too. But I have to admit I like the idea of going somewhere that neither of us have been to before. It kind of makes the trip more "ours" that way.

This weekend I'm going to try to tackle the bedroom closet. Right now my bedroom is the messiest room in the house, as my closet has exploded all over every available surface. Getting rid of a lot of stuff in there would be an asset to packing and moving.

And speaking of that, it's exactly 3 weeks from today that we'll be closing on the house. Holy crap, I can't believe it. There's so much to do!

Because Project Runway's reunion episode is up next, and I can't wait to see Keith Michael be all conspiracy-theory, and Angela and Jeffrey get into it. (For the record, I'm coming out of the closet here and saying I'm a Jeffrey fan. I apologize to no one.)

Work. )

Family. )

Dating. )

Friends. )

And now, Project Runway. Tim Gunn, hooray!

Thoughts on last night's Project Runway )

In other news, I have broken out the pumpkin jammies. It's unseasonably cold here in Chicago. I have a feeling fall has started early, but I'm betting we'll get a good Indian Summer this year. I hope. Yay!

Also, I really am losing weight! I can fit into pants I bought over two years ago. My thighs don't look like two sausages in these pants. I AM WEARING SMALLER PANTS!
