So, no one on my flist seems to be talking about Project Runway. What's wrong with everyone? Are people not watching anymore? What, you don't have any desire to see people FREAK OUT while SEWING? Come on, it doesn't get any better than that.

So this season has 15 contestants instead of the usual 14. Big deal. What bothered me more in the deviation from the norm is the fact that the first contest wasn't about using found objects. They had BETTER do that later this season, because I think it's a great way to take designers out of their comfort zone and see how they can actually design. That said, there is a HUGE plus to doing the first challenge as they did last night, which was "show us your vision as a designer." Rather than be eliminated from the start due to poor use of nontraditional material (as in the past), they cut right to the chase and weeded out someone based on lack of vision/technique. Maybe they did this challenge first specifically to get the cut down to 14? Who knows.

Let's take a look at the designers. There's Carmen, who seems to think pretty highly of herself. She's stolen Rosario Dawson's hair from Sin City, and so far I'm not impressed with her designs. We'll see if she grows on me.

So far I really like Chris. He designs clothes and costumes for drag queens, how can you not love that? Plus, he seems pretty nice so far.

Well, isn't Christian a little diva? Thankfully his designs back up his attitude thus far. I have a feeling I'll want to punt him, though.

I think I will start calling Elisa "Whackadoodle" if she lasts much longer. She makes marionettes, people. GIANT MARIONETTES. She speaks in sounds. She does crazy sewing. I think her novelty act will wear thin really fast. I'll be surprised if she makes it far into the competition.

Jack seems nice. He certainly is pretty. That's about all I have to say for him.

Jillian reminds me of Kara Janx, in that she wears clothes that look like something she'd send down the runway. I love her hair.

Behold Kevin, the lone straight man in the lot.

Kit "Pistol" is definitely her own person. I'm not sure if I think she'll be good, or if she's just kind of twee.

Marion is kind of forgettable thus far.

So far it looks like the producers of the show are gearing us towards Rami. Between the fact that he's doing fashions for the stars already, and he's won the first challenge, he'll be in the race for quite a while, I think. He and Christian are the ones to beat, I'd guess.

What is WITH those HATS, Ricky? For real!

Simone, we hardly knew ye.

Woo-hoo, Chicago boy! Not only is Steven from my city, he works at the Museum of Science & Industry. While not my favorite museum, the fact that he gets to do sewing for their displays makes me super-envious.

I think Sweet P scares me a bit. Her Sweet P/Mean P multiple personality tattoos make me wonder if she'll FREAK OUT at some point. I'm not sure if she'll end up like a Wendy Pepper villain, or what.

Victorya seems nice. Yeah, that's really all I have for her.

Let's look at the final designs:

Christian Great tailoring. I'm not sure how I feel about the asymetrical skirt here. The jacket is wacky and fun, while still feeling all proper. Definitely deserved to be in the top two.

Elisa OMG, what IS this MESS? Ugh! Okay, let me back up. I love the dress. Love the color, love the sleeves, love the way it falls on her body. But I HATE the boots, and even more I HATE that train of crap tacked on the back end. She may have talked about the fabric looking like "magic" and "water" and "fwoosh" or whatever, but Heidi Klum summed it up best by saying it looked like it was "pooing fabric." Without the train, it would have been great.

Jack I love this dress! Why aren't more people cooing over this? It's cute, it's totally sellable, it's got funky big prints and bold colors. Possibly not creative enough to really make a splash, but it's good, solid fashion.

Jillian So cute! Love the color, love the playfulness of it, and it makes the model look really tall. Not sure how I feel about the wavy seam down the front, but I still like it.

Chris Love it. Love the colors, love the fabrics, love the design, love it all.

Carmen Really? REALLY? Ugh. This looks like a genie mixed with a cigarette girl. There's just so much poofy weirdness happening here. The sleeves, the pants, the neck scarf, the hair... And what's with all the chains? I mean, this definitely shows personality, and someone who doesn't make what everyone else makes, but UGH.

Kevin Cute! I like the silver bodice, and the hints of red on the hem and at the cleavage. If I remember correctly, there was a bit of a bustle in the back showing red underneath. It's a funky little design. (PS-This model has the worst posture EVER.)

Sweet P Boring. Just boring. It's shapeless and just dull. I don't know what's going on here, with the fitted ribbon-like hem to the keyhole cutout to the tie-dyed looking straps. I just don't know what's happening here.

Marion Well, this definitely has personality, I'll say that. I remember liking this during the runway show, but in this still photo it looks ucky. Hrm.

Kit Wow. Now THIS is definitely one person's vision. Something about this seems rather Burton-esque, like you'd see Winona Ryder's character in Beetlejuice wearing this as an adult. Without the red it's just a cute dress, but with it the whole thing seems avant-garde wacky. I kind of like it, but then I look at it again and think it's the fug. I'm torn.

Rami The winner. The judges loved the fabric color choice, but it just seems all kinds of bland. The thing that's killing me the most are the shoes. What, was he the last one to the accesory wall? Anyway, the dress has lovely draping, and some really great details like the braided fabric rope. However, the design does cause uneven boob syndrome. That said, it's still one of the prettiest things created.

Simone The loser. At first I thought it would be Elisa, whose dress was ugly. But this was a double-whammy: ugly and unfinished. The colors are uninspired, the design is boring, and it just looks cheap. I've made more polished dresses. And I don't really sew.

Steven I really like this. It's crisp, classic, and funky all in one. I like the high collar, I love the snippets of red in the trimwork, and it looks really well-tailored.

Victorya A funky little twist to the usual little black dress. The giant metal flower may reek a bit of Carrie Bradshaw, but it works. I don't think it deserved to be in the top three, but it's fine.

Ricky I like this dress. It looks very well-made, the fabrics are all aligned well (check the diagonals on the bodice), and the fabric choice is great. However, I do agree with the judges that he played it too safe. If this is the extent of his design abilities, he won't last long. But that doesn't mean this dress is bad.

Anyway, I've been composing this post for quite a while now. And I don't think I really have too much else to say, so I'm wrapping this up. If you watched, let me know what you thought. Without my mom around, I'm starved for Project Runway talk. The Scientist watched it with me last night, but I don't think he's really willing to do in-depth analysis of it all. Heh.
