eee1313Regarding last night's Project Runway... WHY do they insist on doing team challenges? Yes, I think it's good for the designers to have to work in groups to create "a line" of clothing. That's how it works in the industry, you join a fashion house as a low-ranking designer, and you create based off of the lead designer's style. So while it's good that they learn to work to gether to create cohesive designs, it SUCKS that they choose a group leader. Because that group leader ALWAYS is the one to get booted, unless one designer is SO problematic and SUCH an asshole that even the judges know it and won't tolerate it any more. I think that's happened once in all the team challenges. (Please correct me if I'm wrong.) Anyway, I just hate to see someone get the boot because they were not only designing for themselves, but wrangling other people's designs and refereeing catfights or whatnot. Bah.
The challenge was combining 3 outdated fashion trends into something modern. Anyway, the designs, from best to worst team (IMO).
TEAM JILLIAN
Trends: Overalls, poodle skirt, and 70s flare.
Jillian
The winner. I'm not sure if she won because of her design, her leadership, or a combination of the two. It's kind of a funky outfit, but I can't imagine people wearing it on a normal basis, you know?
Rami
It looked much better in motion.
Kevin
The backwards poodle skirt-poof at the neck seems really odd, but I like the little pleated shorts he made.
Overall, I can see why this team won. Definitely the most consistent in terms of creating "a line," and well-executed all the way around.
TEAM JACK
Trends: zoot suit, pleather, and fringe.
Kit
I really like this. It's super-busy with all the different fabric patterns going on, but I think it's great. Kit continues to impress.
Jack
I hated this on the runway. It made the model look pregnant. Then again, that could be because this model has the WORST POSTURE EVER! And she walks like a Muppet, all swingy arms and shit. I can't believe he CHOSE her. Ick.
Christian
I'm going on record here to say that Christian drives me up a fucking wall. I want to punch him in his smug little face and grab him by that stupid cockeyed hair and throw him around. That said, this outfit looks nice.
At first I thought this team would be a shoe-in, but Team Jillian just looked more polished and like it was all part of one collection. Sorry, Christian, I know you thought you'd win, but oh well.
TEAM CHRIS
Trends: Shoulderpads, baggy sweater, dancewear.
Steven
It looks like something you'd wear at jujitsu, not fashion. Save the heels, of course.
Sweet P
THIS was the total surprise outfit for me. I thought this was great. The more I see of Sweet P's designs, the more I think she could be the dark horse to stay in this race to Bryant Park.
Chris
The loser. Oh, poor Chris. Your love for Joan Crawford-style shoulderpads was your downfall. Frankly, I thought this dress was fantastic by itself, but that wouldn't have incorporated the shoulder pads. Maybe if this hadn't been done in such a frightful pattern, it wouldn't have seemed so offensive to the judges. That said, he was TOTALLY robbed by being booted this week. Maybe saying he should get booted was his nail in the coffin, but I don't think he should have been kicked out for being diplomatic.
Trying to make a collection connect via color is never a good idea. Between the shiny fabric in Steven's outfit and the lack of v-neck in Chris's dress, it just didn't work together. Still, this was much nicer to look at than what's to come.
TEAM RICKY
Trends: Underwear as outerwear, cutouts, and neon.
Victorya
This is the nicest looking dress of the bunch, but that doesn't mean it's attractive. And I have to say, I REALLY didn't like the way she handled herself AT ALL throughout this challenge. She passed on being the team leader, and then just steamrolled Ricky the entire time. She was just a total bitch the entire time. I kind of wish Ricky hadn't helped her at the end, just to see if her dress would have failed.

I don't really see "underwear" here. There were little cutouts interspersed with the neon chunks at the top, but overall I don't really get it. Oh well.
Ricky
This dress is just a mess. I really don't understand why he got to stay and Chris had to go. I find this MUCH more offensive to my eyes than Chris's dress, and at least Chris's was constructed well. Maybe the judges took pity on him because they knew Victorya was a bitch the whole time, and he had his hands full with her. I just don't understand the judges' reasoning for keeping Ricky and booting Chris. Not a clue.
And is it just me, or is it hard to get "involved" with the designers this year? I don't really care about any of them as people yet. When the commercial came on with Nick from season 3, I was all "EEEEE NICK!!!" I don't really think the designers this season have the emotional pull that previous years' designers did. Maybe it's just too early in the season, I don't know.

YES. I think he has interesting ideas and could go deep -- IF he could crawl out of his own ass for one minute. Kit is the fun and interesting kind of young, but Christian is the SHUT THE FUCK UP YOU OBNOXIOUS BRAT kind of young. Blah.

Yep. I'm not a huge fan of Ricky's or anything, but he was spot-on when he called her passive-agressive. I hate people who want to run around and act like the leader, but take a pass on the official accountability that comes with being leader (which is often unfair, I agree). What a bitch. I just wanted to slap her the whole time.
I haven't taken to anyone, either. I don't mind a lot of them, for whatever that's worth.
