Project Runway thoughts

So, last night was super Project Runway night, and Lifetime milked every drop out of it. Margaret Cho welcomes Heidi and Tim! The Army Wives say "Make it work!" Yet there were still commercials for Top Chef on Bravo, so it didn't seem very different at all.
First, let's talk about the All-Star Challenge. First off, here's who participated and my reaction to them:
Chris March, season 4. HOORAY!!! I love him. I don't care if he might have narcolepsy. He's AWESOME. I'm also glad to hear he's designing costumes for Beyonce's tour. I may not like her, but that's great publicity for him.
Daniel Vosovic, season 2. Meh. Overrated. Daniel's attitude by the end of season 2 really grated on me. He really thinks he's hot shit, and that really turns me off.
Jeffrey Sebelia, season 3. I know a lot of people HAAAATED Jeffrey, but about halfway through his season I really started to like him. He has his own style and vision, he works with it, his construction is good, and he makes all the challenges work while still holding true to his rocker asthetic.
Korto Momolu, season 5. LOVE HER. She may have a bit of a superiority complex, but it's well-earned. Her stuff is gorgeous, colorful, and above all, wearable. Her second-place finish in season five was a really tough call. I think she could have easily won.
Mychael Knight, season 3. I like Mychael a lot. His coffee filter dress was gorgeous, and I think he makes really accessible clothing. That said, I think he was out of his range amongst these all-stars.
Santino Rice, season 2. Oh, Santino... I hate to love him. He's such a dick, but man, there's just something about him I can't hate. I think it's his Tim Gunn impersonation. That said, unlike Jeffrey, his weird asthetic only hits the mark half of the time.
Sweet P, season 4. I really thought Sweet P would be the weakest one on the challenge, but she really surprised me. Good job, Sweet P! Thanks for also not being a bitch. For real.
Uli Herzner, season 3. I'll say this on the record: I don't think Uli should have EVER gotten as far as she did in season 3. The woman made the same billowy dress over and over, relying on her prints to get her to the next round. I'm pleased to see her design has evolved since then. Uli, however, remains full of herself. Bah.
So what about the challenge? Make a collection of three looks, one of which is going to be worn at the premeire of The Nine. I have to admit, having Nicole Kidman do a guest appearance on PR was pretty awesome. Have they ever had a guest star THAT BIG before? I have a question, though: is Nicole going to wear the winning look, or is it just "someone" will wear it at the premeire? I'm not sure if they specified that. (Side note: I love Chris March's reaction to Nicole after the video ended. He just stood there dumbstruck. Oh, how I love Chris!)
The surprise "fourth look" should have been expected. They always throw a twist in like that. Of the dresses made from found materials at the restuarant, Korto's was HANDS-DOWN the best. I don't know how anyone could argue with that. It was gorgeous.
As for the winner... I am not pleased. I'm sorry, but Daniel's collection didn't work for me. Sure, it was fine, but the restaurant dress looked like something from a scifi movie where the costume designer thinks adding PVC tubes and clear vinyl makes clothes look "futuristic." His big premeire dress was fine, I supposed, but it didn't wow me. Korto deserved to win. Why the judges cream themselves over Daniel V. time and again completely confounds me. That final decision was total bullshit. And 57% of the people voting over at Blogging Project Runway agree. HMPH!!!
Project Runway, Season 6, Episode 1
I like that even though the show changed locations and producers, it's essentially exactly the same as before. At this stage in the season, there are just so many designers that we barely get a chance to know anything about them. There's no real story drama, just crank out the designs.
The challenge this week was to create a red-carpet look, which could be for any awards show. Let's see how the contestants did.
(Note: Sorry I can't get these pictures any bigger. Lifetime doesn't have good pics I can lift off their website, so I had to use the tiny ones from BPR.)

Althea
Totally fine. Very pretty. The bottom of the dress looked a bit heavy when she walked, though. I was afraid the model would trip.

Ari
The loser
What a hot mess. This designer said the red carpet was at the VMAs in 2080, and then the person wearing it would go pick up her Nobel Prize after. Oh, honey, NO. Seeing as how this designer didn't sketch, and she liked clothing to double as tents and CamelBaks, I'm not surprised to see her go, nor will I miss what could have been.

Carol Hannah
Pretty, though there were weird ruffles over the boobs that looked shelf-like. Kind of sloppy at the bottom.

Christopher
The winner
He made this for the VMAs, which was a perfect venue for a dress like this. I loved it. Seeing as how this is the guy who doesn't know jack about sewing (even I know what smocking is), I'm glad he won. Let's see if his natural talent keeps up.

Epperson
This look was a little heavy, but I liked it well enough. And Epperson is officially the "old man" of the group.

Gordana
I could totally see Carrie Underwood wearing this at the CMAs. It's very young, very cute. Also, how weird is it that Carol Hannah used to work in Gordana's boutique?

Irina
Very pretty. I liked this one. I don't remember a thing about Irina, though.

Johnny
The judges LOVED THIS, and I just didn't get it. It looks like this dress has side-wings that extend from the boobs. I totally don't get it. And what's up with the wacky hemline? Also, Johnny is a recovering addict. Did you miss that fact about him, because it was only mentioned a few times.

Logan
Kind of cool. Maybe this was the heavy-moving dress that I was thinking of (and not Althea's).

Louise
While I agree with Louise that the two-tone fabric didn't really work, I like this from the waist up. I don't like the saddlebag hips on the dress. Also, Louise's "I love vintage!" attitude makes me think of Kenley, and now I'm scared of Louise.

Malvin
One word: boring. Malvin likes androgynous clothes that anyone can wear. Maybe that's why this dress looks like a tank top gone wrong? I dunno. He better spice things up, because if this is his style, I'm going to hate him.

Mitchel
First off, I cannot hear this guy's name without singing the MST3K song. "My my my my MITCHEL!" I feel sorry for him that he did all that smocking, and then the model's measurements (that the show provided) were wrong and he had to scrap it all. About Heidi's comment to him that all models lie about their measurements, I say bullshit. It was the show's responsibility to get the correct measurements to the designers, since they hadn't me the models before creating the dress, so it's the show's fault. I hope that's why he got a second chance. Also, this dress is nude fug city.

Nicolas
It doesn't show in pictures, but this dress was cool.

Qristyl
The fact that Qristyl thought this dress would work on Miley Cyrus or Lindsay Lohan shows how out of touch this woman is with what the "youth" today is wearing. This wouldn't work on either girl. No. Even Lindsay looked perplexed by Qristyl saying so. I agree with the judges that the front of the dress was a mess. The pattern and color were great together, but the execution failed.

Ra'Mon-Lawrence
Like the judges said, it's safe, but gorgeous. I liked that it had a square train in the back.

Shirin
Cute, but kind of boring. This played it safe, too.
And as a final note, how weird was it to see guest judge Lindsay Lohan on TV again? Even moreso, how weird was it to see Lindsay from nine months ago on TV? Poor Lindsay. Stop doing drugs and wearing leggings and eat a sandwich and get healthy again. :(
Finally, I did not watch Models of the Runway, so I have no thoughts on that matter.
