The luau-themed "baby shower" I hosted today at work went off really well. I say "baby shower" because the mother-to-be didn't want a huge thing, so we called it a "pre-baby celebration." Sheila (the mother-to-be) ordered a bunch of food from her favorite Hawaiian restaurant. She refused to let us pay for the food, so we took up a collection and made it all back. Then we stuck it in an envelope and handed it off to her husband while she wasn't looking. HA! (We also gave her a Target giftcard so that she can buy the last of the stuff on her registry, and my friend Rebecca knitted her baby a cap, so it's not like she walked away empty-handed.) My friend Krista and I did the conference room up in tiki masks, flower and tiki swirlers, and paper lanterns. We even had tiki plates, cups, and napkins. Everyone wore blue or white leis in honor of Sheila's upcoming baby boy.

Anyway, there were so many leftovers that we were able to divvy it up amongst me, Sheila, and Krista, and now I have dinner covered for tonight. Chicken katsu, short ribs, fried rice, BBQ chicken, and macaroni salad. My desk has a few of the flower and tiki swirlers now taped to the wall, and Sheila and Krista's pod is covered in the rest of the decorations. It's garish, but awesome. And everyone seemed to really enjoy themselves, so it's all good.

I host a good work party. Yes.
