Again, not Harry Potter
Jul. 22nd, 2007 10:41 amSo we put an offer on the house yesterday. The problem is, however, that the seller's agent has not returned ANY of our agent's calls. Danielle says she's called him about five times, and contacted the office out of which he works to ask if he's on vacation or something. Their response? They don't know, and they only have his cell phone number as well. WTF? And the other agent (Burt) hasn't gone through and entered a ton of necessary info into the realtor database about the house. So we spent a lot of time shaking our fists and going "Buuuuuuurt!" angrily. So Danielle said that if she doesn't hear back by Monday morning, she's going over his head and going straight to the broker to put in the offer and get the last info we need (such as lot size and utility costs, etc.).
It seems there's another townhome in the neighborhood that's exactly the same as the one we're bidding on. That one sold for $200K. So we put an offer of $198 down in the hopes that they'd meet us at $200K as well. We'll see what happens.
Both the Scientist and I are a little "I can't believe we're doing this" about the whole thing. And we're kind of nervous as to whether or not they'll accept our offer. (Also, knowing that Burt is dropping the ball right and left makes us wonder how long this might take, and whether or not there may be another offer down already. We have no idea, because Burt's not good with his records.)
The next thing we have to do is find a home inspector. My parents have recommended that we not use the one Danielle recommends, because no matter what she's looking for a sale, and so her people may not look as thoroughly as we'd like in order to help her make the sale. I'm not sure if that's true, but even still it's not a bad idea. So I think I'm going to contact my parents' realtor (whom they've stayed in touch with since they bought their house 20+ years ago) and see if she has any recommendations.
I can't believe we're trying to buy a home. When did I turn into a grown-up? Seriously.
