Aug. 24th, 2007 02:54 pmLast night Chicago got pummeled with bad weather. That's kind of an understatement, depending on where you live. In the OP, it was just torrential rain and lots of thunder and lightning. A few downed trees, but that was it. On the north side of the city, the storm ripped the roof off my friends Steve & Jenni's condo. Tomorrow we're going over to their place to help them pack up all their stuff. Everything will be moved into storage for the month or so it will take to repair the building and make it structurally sound. I feel so terrible for them. Their condo was perfect, and now... Well, I have no idea how bad the damage is. I just know that I feel so terrible for them both.
Thankfully, all of the rain they were calling for today (80% chance of it) seems to be petering out. This is a good thing, as Steve & Jenni need all the help they can get.
It's just so hard to wrap my brain around the fact that all is well in my world, and my friends' world has been turned completely upside-down and inside out. This is definitely one of those times when friends band together to help each other out. I just wish I could do more for them. Helping them pack tomorrow just doesn't seem like close to enough.
