Man's best friend

aninnocent posted just recently about Tom, a local homeless man here in downtown Chicago. Tom is easily recognizable, as he rides around on a bicycle with a wheeled caddy on the back, like people use to tote their kids around behind bikes. Except Tom's caddy carries his dog, Reba. A few weeks ago, Tom & Reba camped out in front of my office building. Both Tom and Reba were very friendly, and she looked to be taken very well care of by him.

But some jerk didn't think that a homeless man could properly care for an animal, and the other day while Tom was buying lunch at McDonalds, Reba was abducted. I guess people have been passing out fliers and posting to Craigslist for information on Reba's whereabouts. Someone has set up a blog for Reba's return. I just hope that whomever took Reba from Tom has some compassion and returns her to him. I can't imagine what it would be like to have someone steal my pet. And if my pet were the only thing I had in the world, it would be so much worse. My heart goes out to the poor guy.

BUT in happier news, here is an awesome story, also about a dog. This poor dog was swept out into Lake Michigan and was drowning when two surfers saved it. So now we have an uplifting tale about how people will risk their lives to save an innocent animal. Hooray!

...Man, I want a dog again.
