There is NO ONE in my office today. My entire department is empty. Completely, totally empty. Zzzzzzzzzzzz. Therefore, I meme.

Yesterday I went to see The Golden Compass with
fava_bean and the Scientist. I'm really not sure how I feel about that movie. It stayed fairly true to the book, yes, but there just seemed to be a lot missing. Now I understand why the critics were all "Why does everyone care about Lyra, anyway?" because she did seem like a brat for a lot of it. I mean, she's a brat in the books, but there you get a better understanding of her, and she's much more sympathetic. Both fava and I had read the books before, but the Scientist was totally green going in. He had a lot of questions, but mostly the movie just left him rather "meh." I was VERY surprised at the ending of the movie, that they left it where they did. Way to give it a happy ending, Hollywood. If you watch this trailer, you'll see that they actually DID film the real ending of the book, but it was cut (probably for being WAY too depressing). That bit looks great, though, and it makes me want to see the original cut of the film.
That said, the polar bear fight was awesome.

Tonight I'm going to a friend's house for New Year's Eve. It should be pretty low-key. Finger foods and appetizers, munchies, games, maybe a movie, and drinking.
fava_bean is coming with the Scientist and I, and she may crash out at our place. Yay, sleepover!
I hope that all of you have a wonderful time tonight, and may 2008 bring you all lots of luck and happiness!
