Sep. 14th, 2008 11:53 amYesterday was really awesome. I went downtown to meet up with
deeablo and Jenni to see the Jeff Koons exhibit at the MCA. I have been in love with Jeff Koons' art ever since I first learned of him as a college freshman. I think it's his "Banality" collection that really sold me. Imagine the most kitschy, mundane, stupid crap you can, and then imagine it remade into fine art. I always get the feeling that Koons is just taking everyone for a ride, all "Look at this gorgeous porcelain statue of a Popple I made -- appreciate it for the art I say it is!" And for some reason, I just love him for it.
Anyway, after a half-hour delay on the train, I finally got downtown, hailed a cab in the rain, and made it to the museum. The exhibit was only two big main rooms, but it was amazing to finally see Koons' stuff in person, after hearing about it all for so many years. ( About the exhibit. )
So overall, it was a really amazing experience. I'm not really a big fan of most contemporary art or pop art, but there's something so cheeky and wonderful about Koons. I'm really glad that I was able to see the best of his work.
Afterwards we met up with Jenni's husband Steve@theMovies and all went out for lunch together. Then the two of them needed to go run errands, and deeablo needed to do laundry, so we all headed home. By the time I got home I had a raging headache that just wouldn't go away, so the Scientist and I stayed in all evening. Today we're going grocery shopping. The fun never stops! ;)
