Jun. 10th, 2009 09:29 amThank you to everyone for the birthday wishes! Big love especially to
deeablo, who left a voicemail message of her cat making chirping noises at me, and then followed that up by playing "Popcorn" in its entirity over the phone. Needless to say, I saved that voicemail. Heh.
The them of yesterday's birthday was "low-key," and that was fine by me.
yakgirl called at 6 a.m. my time and was the first to wish me a happy birthday. Then the Scientist gave me my first birthday present, a pink glass jellyfish he had shipped from Palm Springs that matches the blue glass jellyfish I bought out there. Yay! Now both are proudly displayed in our guest bathroom, and I'll have to take a picture. Then I went to work, where I was bestowed with the world's ugliest birthday statue. I can't wait for the next person in the office to have a birthday so I can get this thing off my desk. The Scientist called and told me to check my bag, as he had slipped my second birthday gift in there: a sterling silver and marque-cut sapphire ring. Nice!
After work I went over to my in-law's house, where my siblings-in-law bestowed me with a huge Barnes & Noble gift card. I'll be buying books for the rest of the year on that. My tiny nephew-in-law sang me "Happy Birthday," which was too cute. From there the Scientist and I headed over to La Mex for dinner, where we met my longest BFF Debbie for dinner. Of course, he had arranged for them to bring me dessert and sing to me. Embarassing, but fun. Then we came home and ate my birthday cake, which was the most awesome birthday cake ever. Don't believe me? Take a look:

See? AWESOME. And, to quote
deeablo, "I made it myself." I even made horns by melting down marshmallows and then rolling them into shape, blast-freezing them, and then painting them with black icing. I think next year's duck may be purple. Oh, the best part? The cake is a red velvet cake, so when we sliced off the duck's butt it was all red inside. HA!
Anyway, it was a good birthday. Thank you again, everyone, for all the nice thoughts. :D
