eee1313: (Serenity - dancing fool)
It was a loooooooong weekend. On Friday the Scientist followed me up to my car dealership so that I could drop off the Cruiser. It needed an oil change and the A/C fixed. Just as we were about to go home, we got a call from his sister J asking for a ride home from work. We were only a few miles south of her, so it worked out well. From there, the three of us headed to Downers Grove for Heritage Fest. They have carnival rides, a small midway, bands playing, and a ton of food tents. Some nights there are fireworks. We were there while Night Ranger was playing. So we walked around and ate food and did some window shopping. Afterwards we went over to the Tivoli Theater to watch Star Trek.

On Saturday the Scientist left around 9:30 or so to meet up with his dad. He was going to keep the Scientist out of the house all day so that I could get ready for the party. I spent all morning cleaning the house; washing floors, scrubbing countertops, dusting, vacuuming, etc. Around 4:30 his friend Kelly A came by to help me with decorating. Soon after Kelly C, T, and her husband A came by to help as well. He couldn't stay for the party (he had to work), but he contributed by getting the grill going for me. Yay! Soon after that R showed up with her kids, then the Scientist's sisters J and S. After that more and more people started showing up, including Andrew, Cinnamon, [livejournal.com profile] deeablo, Jenni, and Steve@theMovies. The Scientist came home to find everyone in our living room, and I think he was pretty shocked at how many people were there.

Throughout the night more and more people arrived, including the Scientist's brother D, his parents, eventually his brother G, and several more friends. Our neighbor Tom also came over with his girlfriend to have a beer and some food. We found out from him that our (tiny) kitchen isn't the original layout, so we're kind of wondering what it looked like before. We're always saying that someday we'd love to redo the kitchen, move some counters over a few feet, etc., but we know that's probably going to cost more than any return we'd get on it. Plus, it's money we don't have now, anyway. People ended up leaving around 11 or a little after, and around midnight both G and I were nearly falling asleep. (He had just flown in from a business trip in California, so he had a better excuse than me.) The party came to its end around midnight, and the Scientist and I deemed it a success. Yay! That said, I am never doing a surprise party again. Waaaaaay too much work.

Sunday morning we got up to have breakfast at Sweet Tomatoes (those two-for-one coupons keep bringing us back). After that we went to a men's clothing store that was going out of business, and the Scientist bought himself a lightweight trenchcoat for the spring/fall when it's rainy. Then we got my car back from the dealership, and I have A/C again! HOORAY! Of course, this week the temps will be in the 70s, whereas last week when I didn't have A/C it was in the 90s... Then we came home and I was so exhausted that I fell asleep on the sofa. Around 3:00 we went over to my friend A's new place. She moved in only a mile and a half from us, so now we have a neighbor! Her new townhome is lovely.

After that we went home and grabbed some leftover beer from Saturday's party, and then headed to T&A's for their annual Heritage Fest party. A lot of the people from our party were at T&A's party, so it was weird to see everyone as much as we did. Nice, but weird. We ended up staying at their house eating food and talking instead of going back to the fest, but that was okay. I'm glad I went on Friday, though. We ended up leaving around 10 so that I could come home and do some laundry for today at work. By the time that was done, it was nearly 11. So needless to say, it was a long weekend. I'm glad this coming weekend will be a long one, so that I can just enjoy it. But this past weekend was worth it.
