Auto Show

Last night the Scientist and I went to the Chicago Auto Show. His dad gets tickets through work for employee appreciation week, and none of his employees ever take them, so he gives them to us. Anyway, it's my second year going (which is crazy considering my dad used to work the fancy-pants opening night every year, when people wear tuxedos and evening gowns, and yet I'd never gone until last year). This year's show was decidedly more scaled-back than the previous year. Jeep still had their big "offroad adventure" where you ride up and down a simulated mountain and across uneven terrain, etc. Except most people at the Chicago Auto Show will never go offroad in their Jeeps. :| Chevy's display was smaller, too, but last year did have the Transformers thing going for it.

There were also fewer classic cars on display, which was kind of a bummer because I like looking at older cars, instead of the new ones which all look similar to one another. There was a collection of Model Ts, as well as vehicles from the Volo Auto Museum's Hollywood cars. But yes, much smaller this year. Still fun, though. PLUS I got to hear guys in the Ford display ragging on the guys in the Toyota display across from them. "Hey, I hear they have a special over at Toyota. You get an extra gas pedal, but no brake!" Cue uproarious laughter. Man, Toyota was really the whipping boy of the Auto Show this year.

Vehicles we like, mostly for my reference. )

In other news, today marks the start of Lent. Despite not being an active participant in organized religion, I'm giving up soda for the next 40 days. I figure drinking soda is just liquid calories that I don't need. Combine that with all of the "Soda gives you CANNNNCERRRRRR!" stuff they've been scaring us with on the news lately, and I just think it would be a good idea to cut it out entirely. It wouldn't be a bad thing to do, and this is a good excuse to start. So from now on, it's water, juice, or Crystal Light at work, with the addition of milk or iced tea at home. And I'm still getting my caffeine fix through my morning coffee, so I won't turn into a raving lunatic with a killer headache in a day or two.

The Scientist is doing his good Catholic kid thing and not only is he doing no meat on Friday, he's also fasting today. Oy vey. I don't have the willpower for that kind of thing, which is why I'm Episocpal and not Catholic. However, the no meat on Fridays rule means that we're going for sushi on Friday. Whoooooo!
