I still hate Facebook
Oct. 7th, 2010 12:01 pmWe saw The Social Network last night. I wasn't really interested in seeing this movie, despite the fact that everyone's like "BEST MOVIE EVER OMGWTFBBQ!!!1!!111!" It definitely is a good movie, though. The script is great. The scenes are cut perfectly. The music (by Trent Reznor) suitably builds anxiety throughout the film. And the acting is great. Jesse Eisenberg is perfect as the cold-hearted Mark Zuckerman/berg, interested more in his code than in the people around him. Andrew Garfield (the future Peter Parker) is great as his best friend and money man, Eduardo. While for Zuckerberg building Facebook is a feat of passion, for Eduardo it's an exercise in partnership. He's invested in Facebook because Mark believes, and he believes in Mark. Needless to say, when things go south Eduardo's faith in both his friend and in honest work crumble, and Garfield sells it. And yes, Justin Timberlake was good as well. Do I think all this Oscar talk is worthy? Not really, no. But was he good? Most definitely. (For the record, my money's already on Jeremy Renner as best supporting actor for The Town.)
I already have a hate-hate relationship with Facebook. This movie only made me dislike it more. I want to delete my barely-used account just because the entire website and company were built on shady, shady practices. Add FarmVille to that, and the equation ends up looking like "Facebook = the Devil."
( On a personal note... )
