eee1313: (Lemony Snickett - fab)

This past weekend was really fun. And busy.

After work on Friday I took off for Evanston to go to [livejournal.com profile] deeablo's place. She was the hostess for the weekend, which was very nice of her. I realized on the train ride up to her that I should not ride the train sitting backwards. Ooog. Anyway, I got there and she and I hung out and talked and ... something else, I don't remember. OH! She made mulled wine, which was tasty. Yes. Anyway, [livejournal.com profile] angelchicken arrived next, and she, deeablo, and I settled in to watch MST3K's version of Mitchell. It was funny, as always. Then we ordered pizza, watched some Supernatural (mmmmm, Jensen), and then ate pizza. [livejournal.com profile] sunbrae called just as she was arriving in Evanston, and I went out to greet her. She drove in with Uncle Larry, who is super-nice and very handsome, just as sunny described. I gave him directions back to the highway, and then sunny and I crammed in the creepy little back elevator of deeablo's building and went upstairs.

There was much squeeing between all four of us, and then sunny ate some pizza and we settled in for movie watching. There were a few scenes from Can't Stop the Music, including the full-frontal shower scene during the "YMCA" number. (PG rating, people!) Then sunny wanted to watch Xanadu, which I had only seen the end of. So I watched up till the parts that I recognized, and then I fell asleep on the floor. deeablo woke me up long enough to pull out the sleeper sofa, and then I crashed hard and slept soundly till morning. Hopefully angelchicken slept as well as I did, and I didn't roll over on her in the night or anything. But I don't think I did.

Saturday morning we all got up, bleary-eyed and wobbly from staying up late. Eventually we were all dressed and then headed over to Clarke's for breakfast. I ordered a baked apple pancake, which was FABULOUS. It did, however, take a half hour to bake, so my food arrived just as the other girls were finishing. We spent lunch chatting about TV shows and gossiping about LJ people. Good times! From there we headed over to Bookman's Alley, this amazing bookstore that deeablo knows, and [livejournal.com profile] taraljc just mentioned last week. This store is crazy. So many books! The only problem was that it was really hot in there, and after a while I started getting woozy. But they have so much stuff. angelchicken had to leave after this to go home and prepare for two parties that night, so we said our goodbyes and then sunny, deeablo, and I went to do more shopping. A quick stop at Francesca's to look at jewelry, and then across the street to World Market to get snacks and stuff. I found the German advent calendars with chocolate inside, the kind Yakgirl and I used to sell for German club in high school, so I had to buy one. (Dammit, I should have bought one for her and her kids! I'll have to get on that...) deeablo discovered her debit card was missing, so we headed home for her to cancel the card. Then we sat around and watched some Smallville, and at one point sunny described Tom Welling's jeans-clad penis as looking like Gonzo's nose. HA! After this, we touched base with some of sunny's friends for dinner plans.

[livejournal.com profile] eponinedc arrived around 5:15 that evening, and I've never met her before. Let me say, she is super nice, which is to be expected seeing as how she's sunny oldest internet friend. (Would you believe they've been online friends for something like seven years, and they'd never met till this weekend?) Anyway, the four of us took the train into the city and went to Andie's for dinner. Soon after arriving, [livejournal.com profile] aninnocent arrived, followed not a minute later by [livejournal.com profile] manoosha. It was really great to see aninnocent again, seeing as how we'd done lunch during the summer, but hadn't met up since. Seriously, we need to do lunch again sometime. And as for manoosha, I'd met him once before in passing at the BuffyCon when Marsters was there, but it was extremely brief. He totally endeared himself to me and deeablo by saying over dinner, "I saw the worst movie last weekend, it's called The Apple." We almost plotzed, seeing as how we were planning to watch it the next day with sunny and angelchicken. Heh. Anyway, the six of us had a wonderful dinner, complete with two orders of saganaki. It was a good time.

From there aninnocent and manoosha went their separate ways, and me, eponine, sunny, and deeablo stood around waiting for the Foster bus for forever. When it finally arrived, it was on its way to the garage, but the driver picked us up anyway and took us a mile up the road to our stop. Then we walked a few blocks to Hidden Cove, the best/worst dive bar with karaoke you'll ever find. Seriously, I love this crappy, awesome bar. There weren't many people when we showed up, except a table of men who were all about the southern rock. deeablo got up to sing The Partridge Family's "I Think I Love You," which she performed sober. Then I eventually got up to do Britney Spears' "Crazy," at which point I learned two things: a) it's easier to sing this song in your car than in front of people, and b) there are extra lines to the verses that WERE NOT used in the video. WTF, TRL, WTF? I apologized to the meager crowd afterwards. Anyway, as the night wore on there was more drinking, more singing (sunny sang INXS and Madonna, deeablo did "Jose Cuervo" and Captain & Tenille, which should have been Queen but was queued up wrong, and I did Rick Astley), and lots of interaction with the table of men next door. One guy named Souix had a mohawk and was very entertaining, and his uncle(?) Bobby hit on me. I declined his invitation to dance, because a) I'm chicken, b) no one dances in this bar, and c) he was old. Later, during a rousing rendition of "Baby Got Back" by Souix and his cousin, Logan Echolls, I discovered that Bobby likes the big girls. Thaaaaaaanks. Anyway, deeablo was quite the hit with the guys, but around 2:30 or 3 we had to head home. sunny, eponine, and I were all exhausted and our throats were scratchy from shouting/secondhand smoke. Eventually we caught a cab and got home, at which point eponine took off, and the three of us watched part of Batman & Robin until we fell asleep.

On Sunday morning I got up to play online, and deeablo woke up as well. We contacted angelchicken to tell her we were awake and she should head up to spend the day with us, and then settled in to watch Smallville with commentary. For the record, I love Allison Mack, Erica Durance, AND Kristen Kruek now. (I still hate Lana, though.) sunny woke up a bit later, and then by the time I was out of the shower, angelchicken had arrived. She, sunny, and I did a donut and coffee run, then came home to watch The Apple. Boy howdy, but I love this movie. It's just so awful. And fabulous. I took pictures of sunny and angelchicken's reactions during the worst/best musical number, which I will post soon. It's pretty hilarious. After that we all hung out, watched some Muppet Show and chatted, and then packed up. sunny, angelchicken, and I hit the train to head into the city and we chatted the whole way. I rode down to Roosevelt with sunny to wait with her until Uncle Larry arrived to pick her up, and then headed back home to the OP. Overall, it was a fabulous weekend.

When I got home I zoned out for a while, then took a shower to wake myself up a bit. The Scientist called to see if we could get together last night, so he came over after his usual Sunday night dinner with his family. When he arrived he had a big bag in his hands. It seems that on Saturday, Lemony Snicket was at the Tivoli Theater doing a press tour/book release for the last of the Series of Unfortunate Events books. I had mentioned a while ago that I had been thinking of going, but decided against it due to time constraints, and the sunny weekend visit. It turns out the Scientist volunteered to work that day, just to pick up swag for me. He arrived at my house with a TON of stuff. Promotional materials, iron-ons, pencils, limited edition Lemony Snickett alarm clocks, a t-shirt, a CD... But then he gave me a copy of the last book, which not only was embossed with the special limited-edition Lemony Snickett stamp, but was autographed to me. Oh. Em. Gee. I can't believe the Scientist did all that for me. To make this an even bigger deal, I guess the Sun-Times did a full-page article on Friday about the Lemony Snickett appearance, but failed to mention that a) tickets were needed, and b) it was sold out. So the poor guy had to work with hundreds upon hundreds of angry parents and kids who wanted in, but didn't have tickets, and then got mad at the Tivoli employees rather than the idiot Sun-Times reporter who didn't give all the facts. He said it was a madhouse. But the fact that he did all of that just because he knew I'd like it, AND he worked a seven-day week, is just so sweet of him. Seriously, I feel like I owe this guy something REALLY great for Christmas. I'm boggled. Anyway, we sat around and talked, watched the end of The Rock on TV, looked through all the Lemony Snickett stuff, and just had a very nice night together. But it was a great way to end a great weekend.

And now I'm at work, doing some new design templates and test updates, and I need to get lunch at some point, but I'm just not hungry yet. I think that's probably due to only having breakfast at 10:15 this morning. This sucks, because I'm not hungry, but I know I'll get hungry later, but I don't want to ruin dinner by eating lunch at 3:00... Maybe I'll get some cereal from across the street. That should fill me up too much. Plus, I'm craving milk right now. Mmmm, calcium.

Because I promised manoosha, and I think angelchicken and sunny might secretly want it as well, here's the soundtrack to The Apple, song by song, via sendspace.

"BIM"
"Love, the Universal Melody"
"Made for Me"
"Showbizness"
"The Apple"
"How to be a Master"
"Speed"
"Where Has Love Gone?"
"Cry for Me"
"Coming"
"I Found Me"
"Child of Love"
"Creation"

Enjoy.
