Going, going, gone.

My parents' house has sold. Yes, already. Two families were bidding on it, and the one that my mom liked better gave the better offer. $1500 more, 20% down, and an earlier move-in date. So closing on the house is September 6. Dang. They're going in to sign the paperwork this morning.

Mom's birthday is on Monday. I think I'm going to call Dad this week and see if we can arrange a birthday thing for Mom on Saturday. I want to get her Tim Gunn's book. Or maybe I'll get her Project Runway season one. Then she can have her love/hate relationship with Wendy Pepper forever. Heh. But either one would make her happy. Maybe I'll get her the book now and save the DVDs till Christmas.

In other news, this Thursday is [livejournal.com profile] yakgirl's 10th wedding anniversary. Wooooo! I can't believe it's been 10 years already. And I'm sure she can't, either. yakgirl, your card is in the mail. Hopefully the RI post office won't screw up and it will get there on time.

Anyway, I'm rambling. How are all of you?

Hot damn that was fast!

No kidding. The first showing was on Friday, and on Tuesday the papers are signed. Craziness.

I'm not terribly surprised it sold so fast... that was a beautiful house! (I'm still drooling a bit over the incredible kitchen.)

Of course, I was also looking at it and thinking that if that house had been in my neighborhood, they would have been selling it for at least three times their listing price (because housing prices around here are insane).

Well, if the housing market here in Chicago didn't suck so hard, they probably could have pulled out another $50K or so, at least. If this were four years ago, the house would have sold for well over $400K. It kind of sucks for my parents, because they could have gotten so much more. But thankfully the house they've bought in Michigan is just a fraction of the price, so once this place is sold, their new house will be completely paid for with the money and they'll have extra to spare. So that's good.

It's a bad sellers' market, but a great buyers' market, as I've recently discovered. :D

Wow, that's crazy fast.

I know, isn't it nuts?

NO! I mean, I knew (cognitively) that the house of eep's childhood was going to be sold, but...so fast? I...but...what? How am I going to see your mom at Christmas time? I won't get to bear witness to the ever expanding Christmas metropolis. No more crazy holiday baking shininigans. Those cream puffs she made us back in high school still live strong in my memory. I always felt at home there. So sad. Great for your parents, but...us kids are sad. :(
