I am very tired today. It is a holdover from Saturday, which was the day of my friend Tammy's bachelorette party. (For those of you who came to my wedding, it was Tammy's dad that married me and the Scientist. He and Tammy have been friends since elementary school.) Anyway, Tammy's marrying this really great guy on Saturday, so this past Saturday marked the debauchery that was her bachelorette party.
Everything started at 10:30 am, as a handful of us met at the White Chocolate Grill for brunch. The place didn't open till eleven, but we were there beforehand just to make sure we all had our food orders ready and were seated immediately. Of course, a few last minute folks showed up, which resulted in table rearranging, but it worked out fine in the end. I had crab cakes benedict, which were beyond tasty, and my first Bloody Mary. I know, right?
From there, a bunch of the women headed to downtown Naperville to get spa treatments. However, I am a cheapass and don't want to pay to get a massage or manicure, and so I headed home.
For phase 3, me, Tammy, her sister Lori, and Tiffany went to Tasting Devine in Naperville, a wine cellar operated by Lynfred Winery (the place that makes amazing fruit wines). We each tried six different wines, and then bought a few bottles for the party that night. I purchased a bottle of Wedding White for Tammy, because I thought she could drink it post-wedding next week.
After that, we had some time to kill before phase 4. Lori headed to Trader Joe's to buy some super-cheap wine for the party, and Tiffany went off in search of last minute alterations.
[Side story: one of Tammy's bridesmaids hasn't come to any wedding-related activities. No showers, no bachelorette party, no communication of any sort. At one point this girl decided to have a shotgun wedding and called Tammy to say "Guess what? I'm getting married on June 13!" To which Tammy was like "Bitch, please, you're a bridesmaid in my wedding that day." (Except Tammy wouldn't say that, because she's too polite.) Anyway, this bridesmaid is completely redunkulous and everyone fears she won't show up on the wedding day. One of Tammy's other bridesmaids found an extra bridesmaid dress on clearance and bought it to make a shawl out of the dress fabric. She gave this extra dress to Tiffany in the hopes that it could be altered, so that Tiffany could have it on-hand to be an "understudy bridesmaid" if the crazy girl doesn't show. So Tiffany went to get it altered, and they said they couldn't take the dress in as much as she'd need. (Size 14 won't alter down to an 8.) But lo and behold, the store had one size 8 dress in the back, and Tiffany bought it for less money than the alterations would cost. I think it's a sign. So now she's going to be dressed and ready on the wedding day, just in case. If the crazy girl does show up, then Tiffany will walk with the flower girl and ring bearer. I'm betting that she won't show up, though. Between her current track record and the fact that she bought the dress before she got knocked up and she's now five months pregnant, I'm thinking it won't fit and she just won't attend. Nice, huh?]
Tangent aside, after the wine tasting I took Tammy back to her brother's house, where the bachelorette party was held. We hung out for a while as a few family and friends showed up, and then Tammy went upstairs to hide while we decorated. Eventually a whole bunch of people showed up, including one bridesmaid who surprised Tammy by flying in early from Vegas. So we all hung out and drank and ate food and played with the dog. Tammy opened her gifts, which ranged from really pretty lingerie to really horrible toys. After that, a representative from one of those at-home s3x toy parties showed up. We all sat around for the presentation, which got much raunchier than I expected. Tammy's aunt and our friend Kelly's mom were both there, and their expressions ranged from horrified to delighted. It was quite amusing to watch their different reactions to everything. It was pretty obvious that our generation vs. their generation has very different opinions re: s3x and how openly one can discuss it. Tammy's brother also showed up halfway through and sat in for the second part, which was amusing as well. Having male commentary throughout was quite entertaining.
After this, phase five was supposed to be going to one of the local riverboat casinos. However, by the time the demonstration was over and the rep started taking orders, everyone was either exhausted, drunk, or both. Several people called it quits, but I stuck around to talk with people. Around 1:00 I wanted to leave, but Tammy was preoccupied with people and the rep and I didn't want to leave without saying goodbye to her. By 1:30 I finally decided too bad, I was interrupting things. I said my goodbyes, wished her well, and headed home. It was 2:00 by the time I got in, and my feet hurt. My contacts were like sandpaper in my eyes. Needless to say, I hit the bed and was out cold.
So yeah, yesterday I spent a good chunk of the day recovering and just taking it easy. I didn't have a hangover or anything, I just felt like I was wiped out. I spent part of the day baking my birthday cake, and part of last night icing it. I still have more work to do on it tonight. I also watched part of Geoffrey Baer's behind-the-scenes-of-Chicago series on the local public TV station. This resulted in calls to both
xica_s and
aj, as I know they both love those shows. Alas, neither was near a TV. Then last night I went to my in-law's for dinner, and we watched some Chuck. That was good.
