According to this article, traffic bottlenecks are getting worse. Gee, you think? What I love is this:

Chicago has three out of twenty of the worst bottlenecks in America. At number 3 we have the Circle Interchange (where the Ryan/Kennedy meets the Eisenhower), which I drive through every morning on my way to work, and every weekend on my way to visit friends in the north side and Evanston. Yay!

At number 11 there's the split between the Ryan and the Skyway, which I drive through every morning on my way to work. I'm taking this route because I want to cut about $300 a year in tolls. (Don't even get me started on the money it takes to drive these roads, and how the tolls should have been eliminated in the late 70s. Fucking IDOT.)

And at number 19, we have the Hillside Strangler, also known as the spot on the Eisenhower where northbound traffic from the TriState, eastbound traffic from 88, and southbound traffic on the Eisenhower all come together. (I like that this one is so shitty it got its own nickname.) I drive through this one every day on the way home from work. Trust me, it's better than trying to brave the Circle during rush hour.

So I just want to give mad props to Chicago for having such a craptacular highway system. Seriously, who designed this? Three highways meeting at one point? What crack were the traffic engineers smoking? And can I have some, because that would probably make my ride home a lot more fun.

::grumble::

Chicago traffic sucks so much, it's one of the reason why I avoid the roads like the plague at certain times during the day. It's also why I keep trying to move to places by my workplace. Argh. I have no patience whatsoever for it! :P
