This certainly puts things in perspective.

Before I leave the house every morning, I always have the local news on so I can get the traffic report. I heard them mention something about the Bishop Ford Freeway, so I went over to the TV to check it out. I guess one person was found on the frontage road next to the highway, and he'd been shot in the head, execution-style. (ETA: It seems there's more to the story.)
So I'm driving to work, and about a half mile north of 130th I see a cop car blocking the frontage road. And then I see a whole slew of cop cars, and policemen swarming all over. And one is hunched down over something, and I realize it's a body. I saw the body of a murdered person on the way to work today.
Of course, the news camera crews were already on the scene. It's just so surreal. I've never seen a dead body before (save for at funerals), and certainly not one of a person who died in such an obviously premeditated and violent way. So I guess I should remember
bigboobedcanuck's words of wisdom when things get hard and I get whiny: "At least you're not dead."

In other news, Mr. Bill at work just got back from a trip to Toronto. He left a Tupperware container full of butter tarts on my desk. I love Mr. Bill. He's the best. Yakgirl, I'm going to see if these things will freeze well, and I'll keep them until you show up next weekend, okay? I know you've been jonesing for these.
