Bad news first: tonight after work I'm going to try to head over to [livejournal.com profile] rosheen12's wake. She died on Sunday morning of ovarian cancer (I think). I only met rosheen twice, through [livejournal.com profile] taraljc, but she was a really nice, sweet, fun gal who—as ljc pointed out—always had a smile on her face. Plus, she loved Sean Maher, so we were psuedo-kindred spirits that way. ;) I know [livejournal.com profile] fishdoctorpost will be going tonight, as the two went to high school together. Though I barely knew rosheen, I think it would be nice for her family to know that she was thought highly of. So yeah, that's sad.

Good news: today is my last day at work until next Tuesday. Wooooo! I'm very excited about that. My plan tomorrow is to clean my apartment. A lot. Thursday [livejournal.com profile] fava_bean has off work, so we might catch a screening of Goblet of Fire during the day when it's cheaper, and then I'll go to my parents' house that night to pick up shipped packages and maybe bake some more. Friday I'm cleaning my kitchen, grocery shopping, and cooking, as that night I'm hosting a small dinner party for the old high school gang. Saturday I'm packing up myself and the cat and heading to the parents' house again to do Christmas. I think I'll probably just stay out there till Monday night, maybe. I'm not sure. We'll see.

Many thanks to the following people for Christmas cards: [livejournal.com profile] queenofthorns, [livejournal.com profile] boannan & [livejournal.com profile] jasunshine, and [livejournal.com profile] edie22. I'm pretty sure I also thanked [livejournal.com profile] xica_s, [livejournal.com profile] bigboobedcanuck, [livejournal.com profile] sodanyc, and [livejournal.com profile] queenofalostart & [livejournal.com profile] kingofalostart for cards earlier, but just in case, thanks!

Finally, good luck to all of my NYC friends getting through the transit strike. I hope this doesn't cause too many headaches for you, but moreso, I hope you don't lose even a fraction of your salary over this. If you're forced to take the day off because you can't get in to work, enjoy your day!

Seriously, is it just because I'm not buying this for myself that I forgot what day today is?

It's SERENITY Day!

That's right, girls and boys, Serenity is out on DVD today! Go buy yourself a copy! It's really good! My imaginary husband gets shirtless! You know you want to see that. C'mon! Buy a copy! You'll love it, trust me.

Also, there was an unfortunate article in EW this week stating that Joss is pretty much done with the Firefly-verse, and that Serenity is the finale, not the start to a franchise. *sigh* I pretty much knew that was coming, and I'm okay with it. But I'm gonna miss it.

First off, an interesting link about presidents, wire taps, Constitutional rights, and impeachment. Frankly, the logic of this article makes sense. Nixon went down for a lot less that Dubya has done. The man shouldn't be above the law, especially to the extent that he's gotten away with.

For a much less controversial thought, I just got this quote from my friend Kirsti, who lifted it from The Mammoth Book of Oddballs and Eccentrics by Karl Shaw:

"The miser John Overs, who made a fortune from his Thames ferryboat ... lived so frugally, it was said, that the rats left his house of their own accord. ... His meanness contributed to his premature death. In an attempt to cut down on his bills, Overs pretended to be dead for a day, believing that his house servants would fast until after the funeral and thus reduce his food bill. The plan backfired when they celebrated instead by throwing open the doors to the pantry. When Overs rose from his deathbed to complain they thought he was a ghost and clubbed him to death with an oar."

Bwa ha ha!

But this one's fun. Check out this website. It scans a picture of your face and does photo recognition to match you with a celebrity. I loaded this picture of myself and came up with a 68% match with Neve Campbell. Well, we both have the super-straigh eyebrows and smallish mouth. Hey, at least now I'll be able to answer those "What celebrity do you look the most like?" questions that I hate so much. Heh.
