What WAS that?

Last night familyarchives came over to my place to hang out, as she was in the OP cat/housesitting. We chatted a bit, I made dinner (leftover Christmas ham and scalloped potatoes, with mocha cake for dessert), and we settled in to watch Spirited Away. I'd heard a lot about this movie over the years; how amazing the animation is, how wonderful the story is, how fabulous Miyazaki and Studio Ghibli are, how many awards it won. But I gotta say, I just didn't get it. Let me state that again, with more emphasis: I totally didn't get it.

So yeah, I'm sorry, I know it's supposed to be a great movie and everything, but that movie BLEW. And I'm not anti-Ghibli. I saw Kiki's Delivery Service and loved it. But Spirited Away was just one big old WTF to me.

Bah!

Rotten Tomatoes is on my list today, with a bullet. Why?

A very, very, very HAPPY BIRTHDAY to the most awesome, mighty, kick-ass, smart, funny, goofy, oddball, charming, delightful, sage, and kind person around, fishdoctorpost!

I was lucky enough to meet the fishdoctor my junior year of college, when she lived next door to fava_bean, and then I began attending her church. Then the next year I moved in with fava and the fishdoctor became my neighbor/laundry room roommate. We've remained friends ever since, about which I am eternally happy, because the fishdoctor is one of those people who is always great to be around. Seriously, everyone should know the fishdoctor, because she's just that awesome.

Anyway, fishdoctor, for your birthday I wish you all my best, and the Punisher fighting a battle with, oh, I dunno... the Tick. And Zorak is the referee. Because that'd be cool, and you'd love every minute of it.
