Ganked from [livejournal.com profile] cincodemaygirl...

Make a list of the top 5-10 things that you think visitors to your area/city should do or see. Ignore any seasonal or scheduling restrictions (ie. include festivals/events/things that are only possible during the full moon). Strike through the ones you've seen/done yourself, and italicize the ones you want to do again/haven't done to your satisfaction. Bold the ones you haven't seen, and consider making some time for them.

Visit Chicago(land)! )

Uh-oh!

Drip drip drop little April May showers...

So I was sitting there, drawing a short pattern plug valve on the computer when I heard a noise. I thought it was my cat walking slowly across the creaky floor, but then I noticed my cat wasn't moving. She was sitting very still, watching the floor. So I went over to investigate and found water puddling there. And in the kitchen. There was water coming down from my ceiling in both the dining room and kitchen, and running down the walls of the dining room as well. Craaaaaaaaaap.

I ran upstairs to make sure the neighbors knew something was up, and they told me their kitchen sink was leaking, and they had shut off the water. I came back downstairs, put towels all around, and assessed the damage. There's nothing too bad, except now my dining room ceiling is yellowish-brown in spots, and the paint has bubbled and is peeling in places. Thankfully, the water dripping in my kitchen was mostly caught by some bowls I have placed decoratively above the cabinets, so that's a bit of luck.

I called the landlord and let her know what's going on, and it seems that there will be maintenance done tomorrow. This means that tonight I have to stay up late and make sure the dining room and kitchen are clear for Idridz (our maintenance guy) to inspect before a professional is called. The dining room is no problem, but my kitchen? My kitchen is like a war zone. So I'll be up LATE tonight cleaning that up. I've already called my bosses to tell them I'm taking a personal day tomorrow. Between the late night and the potential of having workers I don't know in my apartment AND needing to make up freelance time AND not having much work to do at the real job, staying home seems like the way to go.

Hey, at least I'm not having [livejournal.com profile] katesti's water damage issues. Eeeek.
