Movie talk.
Jun. 1st, 2007 11:36 amFirst and foremost,
xica_s, did you know they're doing a remake of The Women, this time with Meg Ryan, Annette Bening, Eva Mendes, Jada Pinkett Smith, Debra Messing and Candice Bergen? This is just one more example of how much Hollywood sucks. The original is PRICELESS. Why remake it when there's nothing wrong with it? At least Ocean's Eleven cleaned up the story and improved on it, as did The Thomas Crown Affair. But why remake a movie that's already GOOD? Is it just that people are too idiotic to watch a black and white movie nowadays? Do we only want technicolor and stars we know, rather than going back to what was made before the days of Spielberg and Bruckheimer to see what was great decades earlier? You know they're going to change dialogue, plot points, etc. They should just keep the screenplay as it was before, and film it with new actresses if they have to remake it. Bleh. Stupid Hollywood. Stop remaking perfectly good movies! Everyone else, go watch more TCM.
(Speaking of TCM, tonight it's North by Northwest and at 2 am they're playing the Monkees bizarro-movie Head followed by the Who's Tommy. Sunday night they're showing The Wizard of Oz, followed by Spirited Away. Gotta love that station.)
In other movie news, Knocked Up is coming out today. I know several of you on my flist are gunning for this movie, and I have to wholeheartedly recommend it to everyone else. My friend Steve@theMovies said this of the film: "if you don't have the time of your life watching this movie, there's something horribly wrong with you." I tend to agree. This movie is great. Very funny, well-written, smart and realistic characters, I could go on. ( And I will say two things that you MAY consider spoilery, even though I'm not giving away the jokes. )
Knocked Up is currently running 92% on Rotten Tomatoes, which is pretty damn good. The 40-Year-Old Virgin capped at 83%, so if you thought that was a damn funny film, you should LOVE Knocked Up. But seeing as how I've already seen it, I think that this weekend I may try to hit a theater that's playing Waitress. Hello, it's Felicity, Captain Tightpants, and Elton from Clueless. What's not to love?
