Been really busy with work, and probably will be for a while longer.

However, I saw two movies this past weekend. The first was Fantastic Four: Rise of the Silver Surfer. We saw that because the Scientist had free tickets, and we took his mom. She has a hearing impairment, so movies with big noises and little dialog work best for her. The first half hour of the movie was embarassing for all actors involved. The middle part was much better, mostly due to Julian McMahon. He is HAWT. Basically, the movie was pretty much forgettable, but a good popcorn flick for free. Heh.

Then we saw Ratatouille, which I REALLY enjoyed. Very good movie. Not very "childish" at all. The slapstick comedy so often relied on to entertain children (Disney, I'm looking at you) was barely there, and when used it always made sense for the story. Honestly, I think this was probably the most grown-up Pixar movie yet. Two thumbs up. Very good. And their version of Paris is LOVELY, and quite realistic. Highly recommended.

And I didn't see it, but last night the Scientist saw Transformers. Here's his take on it. Barely there spoilers, mostly just impressions, but you know how people can get so I'm using a cut tag. )

In other news, I hope they let us out of work early today...

They let us out of work early. Yay! I thought I'd come home, find the Scientist already here, and then take off for the burbs. (We're going to watch the fireworks in Oak Brook tonight rather than downtown in Chicago, as I hate the crowds for the fireworks and the Taste today.) I could hit up the Party City store by his place beforehand to buy decorations for a luau-themed baby shower at work this Friday, and hit Target for a gift card for the mother-to-be. Not so much.

I got home to find the place empty. Thinking there was a miscommunication and perhaps he had already taken the train home, I sent him a text message. He called back about an hour later, saying there'd been a major emergency at work. Their power went out, and they're losing all the stuff in their freezers and are scrambling for a quick fix. I offered up my own freezer space, only to find that theirs average about -80˚C. My Frigidare won't cut it. So now I have no idea when he'll be here, or what might happen to all their DNA and experiments that need cold storage, or what kind of mood he'll be in when he gets here, or if he'll even want to see the fireworks tonight. I can't blame him if he won't want to, though. Still, phooey.
