HAPPY BIRTHDAY to
missrachael! She and I met years and years ago, back in I think sixth grade. We became fast friends, as we were both geeky into musical theater (specifically Phantom of the Opera) and couldn't run the mile in gym class in anything under 15 minutes. Yes, we sucked. But we had fun sucking. We were friends until sometime near the end of high school, when we just drifted apart for some reason. Luckily we somehow found each other via LJ, and now keep updated on each other's lives this way. She's now married with a baby on the way, and is working as a children's librarian, a job which I am very envious of. So yes, HAPPY BIRTHDAY, missrachael! I hope this next year brings all kinds of joy (I'm sure of it), and that you have a wonderful day today!
Also deserving of a HAPPY BIRTHDAY shoutout is my best friend D. She and I first met when we were in elementary school. We both subscribed to Cricket magazine, and I'd always read the letters from kids to see if anyone lived near me. She wrote a letter, I asked the magazine to forward her a letter so we could become penpals, and they did. So I think we exchanged a total of four letters before we forgot about each other. We officially met in junior high, where we became good friends (along with
missrachael). D also geeked out on musical theater for a while there, and she couldn't run the mile well, either. D and I remained friends all through high school and college, when I'd drive out to her school in Podunk, Illinois to see all her shows. She's now happily married and the proud owner of the craziest pug dog in the world. She's a successful lobbyist for home care, and very driven in her desire to advance in the world of statewide politics. So HAPPY BIRTHDAY to you, D! I hope you have a wonderful birthday as well, and we'll celebrate together soon!
