Project Runway rundown

So last night I went over to my parents' house. I would have taken pictures of the main Christmas tree in progress, but unfortunately my camera ran out of batteries before I could take a single photo. Boo. I really need to get some rechargable batteries for that sucker. A little more than half of the ornaments are on the tree. Most people would think the tree was already overloaded with ornaments, but what do they know? Keep loadin' 'em on!
Mom and I ended up watching the season premiere of Project Runway. My mom loves to sew and took a bunch of fashion merchandising classes in college, so this is right up her alley. Dad, however, went to the bedroom to read. Heh. Okay, first and foremost, I have to say that I love Austin Scarlet. I think he made some gorgeous haute couture gowns last season, and I loved seeing him back at the beginning of the episode. I want to hang out with him and have him help me pick out flowers or something. I couldn't care less about seeing Wendy Pepper ever again, and Kara Saun—while someone who makes gorgeous clothes—will never be redeemed for that shoe switch she pulled at the fashion show last season.
Okay. So. The new designers. None of them really stood out for me right from the start, except Nick, Santino, and Emmett (loved his little pink cutout number). While Diana makes some neat outfits and has cool designs, and while I admire her science+fashion design theory, I think she's woefully out of place and this is going to bite her in the ass sooner rather than later. Lupe has great style, but her critiquing everyone in the workroom was just tacky. (I'm glad Nick called her out on it, even if it was only in the "confessional.")
But SPEAKING of tacky... Oh, how I hate Zulema. First, not sharing her closet with her roommates? Dude. I so would have taken all of her shoes and thrown them on her bed when she was in the shower. I don't care if you grew up with 8 siblings and think someone owes you, you don't treat your roommates like that. And she didn't have a sewing machine and had to sew by hand? Oh, the humanity! Big fucking deal. You know what people did before sewing machines were invented? They SEWED BY HAND. Get over yourself, bitch. Your designs aren't even that great, and shoulderpads ain't cool. HAAAAAATE.
I also can see myself really disliking Santino in the future. He really does cool stuff, and he definitely has the chops to back up his attitude... for now. I think his superiority complex is going to get old really quickly. As much as Andrae's little breakdown on the runway was bizarre, openly laughing at the guy isn't going to win you the Miss Congeniality award, you know? I'd love to see the judges bitchslap him down a few pegs already.
You know who I'm really rooting for already? Daniel F from last season. Personally, I really like the stuff he's done so far. He got reamed on his first dress for not fitting the bust correctly. But if you look at the dress when the model was still, it fit fine. Granted, movement is definitely something he should have accounted for in his design, but other than that his brown dress was gorgeous. And that fitted jacket and skirt he made for the second challege? I totally agree with Heidi Klum—I'd wear that in an instant. Gorgeous. The guy needs to stop second guessing himself, because I really think he's talented. I'd love it if he won. Him, or Nick.
As for those who got the boot, John totally deserved it. His dress just wasn't attractive, and the fact that he admitted that he only worked on it for 8 hours was just mindboggling. Why would you admit to that? You dumbass. You deserved to get kicked out. I felt bad for Heidi, however. Yes, her stuff was a bit pedestrian and girly, but I thought it was pretty nonetheless. She may not be high fashion, but hers is the stuff I can imagine selling the most. But she had a good attitude about it, so that's good.

Date: 2005-12-08 04:47 pm (UTC)I'm gonna be a good girl and not read the rest of this since I forgot to watch it last night (D'oh!) but I am in total agreement with you on Austin. If I was some kin dof rich person who could afford couture clothes I would have called Austin up and made him my personal designer. I wanted to wear ALL his stuff. And while I did usually like Kara Saun's clothes, she personally annoyed the crap out of me. And her collection was far to derivative of 1. The Aviator and 2. Gucci couture. I think her costume designer past put her at a disadvantage. She obviously knows how to mimic other styles but she herself is wildly unoriginal. And while I didn't think Rober was that good of a designer I would happly let him alter my clothes (his strength to me was always that he very obviously cuts women's clothes very well) and then rip them off of me.
