eep vs. The Man

So after work today I did something I didn't ever think I'd do: I launched a one-woman campaign on my street against the city of Oak Park. I put a flier on every car parked on the street, as well as those parked on the side street. (I skipped the cars with Berwyn [Berrrrrwyyyyyyyn!] stickers, because they don't belong on my street, anyway.) I also hung fliers in the neighborhood grocery store, as well as every lobby of my apartment complex. Oh yes. I am taking on The Man.
Tired of living in "No Park Oak Park?"
There may be a change!
As a resident of Oak Park and someone who lives on an overcrowded street, you know of the frustration of the parking restrictions. The nighttime parking ban was put into effect back in 1929, before owning a car was a possibility for many families. The thought was that not allowing parking decreases crime, assists with emergency vehicles, and helps street cleaning. That said, the restrictions on parking are becoming a hindrance to many residents and their wallets. But Oak Park is finally considering a change to the parking restrictions! There are several options for hte parking ban repeal, from forgoing nighttime parking restrictions completely to increasing parking zones. More options and greater detail on each are available on the city's website. Please take a few minutes to voice your opinion and take the survey online:

Are you tiref of not going out at night for fear that there won't be parking spaces available when you come home? Are you angry at having to pay for car registration and quarterly street parking, only to find there's not enough room to park? Are you frustratted not having visitors to your home, because they fear they will be ticketed? Are you confused about when and where the city will chose to ticket? Do something about it!

Oak park residents should not have to live like hermits, afraid to leave their homes for fear of being punished with parking tickets. They shoudl also not have to live under an out-of-date law that was created nearly a century ago. Please take the survey, and pass the word on to your neighbors.
Together we can make the city welcoming not only for guests,
but for its residents!
Now let's just hope my neighbors are as fed up as I am.

In other news, I've decided that with part of my award winnings I'm going to buy this. The George Foreman G5! It's the grill, and a griddle, and a waffle maker, and a sandwich maker, and you can even bake with it! This is totally my thing. Everyone I know with a George Foreman loves them, and seeing as how I hate to cook this could be the answer to my prayers. Yeah, I know it's pricey, but with this I'd actually eat real food. I mean, right now I have berries defrosting in a bowl so that my Cheerios won't taste so bland for dinner. How lame is that? Plus, the plates are removeable so it's really easy to clean, and it's dishwasher safe so that someday when I have a dishwasher, I'll be ready to go. Oh yes.
