In praise of diversity

Seeing as how there's so much hurt, anger, and frustration going around LJ lately due to racial insensitivity, I thought I'd try to cheer people up a little.
Before I go any further, let me say that I'm white, white, and more white. Irish, German, Scotch, English, Dutch, and a tiny bit of French. I could not be more white if I tried. For the most part I'm mainly attracted to white and Asian men, but that doesn't mean I don't find men from other backgrounds handsome as well. So in honor of hot non-white guys everywhere, I thought I'd share some of my favorites with all of you.

Chiwetel Ojiofor Most commonly known in fandom as the Operative from Serenity. Currently in Talk to Me with Don Cheadle, also in Children of Men, Kinky Boots, and Love, Actually, amongst many others. Of Nigerian decent, but British all the way, which makes for a great voice.

Adam Beach Canadian member of the Ojibwa Nation. Got rave reviews for his role in Windtalkers and Flags of Our Fathers. Also speaks to First Nation kids regularly as a motivational speaker.

Daniel Dae Kim South Korean. Currently on Lost, also was on Angel as Gavin Park. Cheekbones!

Javier Bardem Spanish. This guy is an amazing actor, very intense, and ruggedly handsome. I think of him as the Spanish Clive Owen.

Jesse L. Martin You've seen this guy everywhere. Law & Order. Rent. Ally McBeal. He's great. Love him.

Kal Penn Best known as the Kumar half of Harold & Kumar Go to White Castle (which is awesome!), but also has shown his acting chops recently in The Namesake. American born, but of Gujarati Indian descent. His real name is Kalpen Suresh Modi.

John Cho The Harold half of Harold & Kumar. Also was the guy who chanted "MILF! MILF! MILF!" in American Pie. He's another South Korean.

Gael Garcia Bernal Rocketed to fame in Y Tu Mama Tambien. He's TINY, but adorable. Also looks good in drag. Mexican.

Oded Fehr From Israel, also lived in Germany and France. Most famous as being Ardeth Bay in the Mummy movies, and being the real gigolo in Duece Bigelow: Male Gigolo. Was recently a terrorist in The Cell.

Ludacris Rapper first, but has shown he can really make it as an actor after Crash and Hustle & Flow. I find his smile completely irresistable. Also, born in Champaign, Illinois.

Brandon Lee Son of Bruce Lee, and died far too young. Half Chinese, half caucasian.

Marc Dacascos My favorite multi-ethnic actor. He's Filipino, Spanish, Chinese, Irish, and Japanese, and all-around lovely. Plus, he's a crazy martial artist who speaks a bunch of different languages. Rock on.
So there you are. I hope you've enjoyed your eye candy for the day. Hooray for lots of ethnicities and races and hot guys everywhere!

Date: 2007-08-01 10:50 pm (UTC)I know you don't know what was going on behind the scenes, but you may want to consider that being snarky is not always appropriate, especially when you don't know the depth of the hurt feelings I already made mention of. And when it insults other friends of mine as well.
This isn't meant to stir up shit between friends (because I consider you, and the two commenters above my friends). But be aware that commenting like that in such a blanket gesture can very well insult people I care about, and I'd prefer if my friends don't insult each other on my journal (whether the insult was intended or not).

Date: 2007-08-02 04:35 am (UTC)Sadly my opinion of LJ may actually be worse since learning of DD's existence, but feel free to take it to me elsewhere about that; I'm linked-to on the sidebar. I wouldn't start trouble in eep's home, and shouldn't here, and for that I apologize.

Date: 2007-08-02 02:52 am (UTC)Mmmmmmm...Mohinder...(played by Sendhil Ramamurthy)… my favorite "mundane" Hero
Grant Imahara, my favorite geek… other than my husband of course.
And, of course, Santiago Cabrera — Isaac from Heroes, you'll remember :)
And yummy Jesse White. And I'm REALLY digging Kal Penn with the glasses.
Dunno where this came from, but I love a good excuse for yummy boys.
