So is anyone else following the stories from Myanmar about the anti-military government protests? Hundreds of thousands of people are demonstrating against the military-led government, and Bhuddist monks are leading the marches. This is the government that has ignored the public election that voted them out of office and is using military power to stay in control. They've also put Nobel Peace Prize laureate Aung San Suu Kyi under house arrest for 12 years for trying to peacefully overthrow the military. Anyway, it's absolutely amazing that this is happening, and I haven't really heard people talking about it. (Then again, I haven't been watching world news lately due to being busy with the move and all.) But check out the pictures here, they're absolutely inspiring.

In other news, we went to the final walk-through last night. The family was in the process of moving out at the time. WTF? We were told they were moving out Monday during the day, and that the walk-through wouldn't be a problem. Whatever! I am so tired of these people. I'll just be happy to have the keys in five hours, so that I never have to deal with them again. And they were all "If you could have come tomorrow morning..." and the Scientist and I were all "We have to WORK." Seriously, THEY are the ones that changed the closing date. It's THEIR fault everything happened at once, not ours. Idiots.

After the closing we watched Heroes. For the most part I thought it was a little dull, but then the ending just hooked you in. Between George Takai getting offed, Nathan having a melty twin in the mirror, and HRG working with Mohinder to bring down the Company, I am hooked. And I have to admit, I LOVE that Molly has two daddies. Heh. But seriously, I am really happy that Matt Parkman looks to be a bigger character this season. He's totally my favorite.

I haven't watched HIMYM yet. Please don't spoil me.

From there, we went back to my apartment to get clothes for the week, stuff for the wedding, and my cat. That's the last time my cat will ever be in that apartment. I kind of feel bad about that, like I just uprooted her for the rest of her life with no warning. Anyway, on the drive home she peed in her carrier, though we didn't know it. Then we let her out and she spent the entire ride in the Scientist's lap. So he smelled like cat pee. D'oh! Anyway, now she's all settled in at his apartment and has the run of the place, climbing all over everything. At least she's at home now. In a week, we'll just uproot her again. Take that, cat!

Anyway, I need to get to work. The closing is this afternoon at 2:30, so if y'all could cross your fingers for us, I'd appreciate it. Thanks!

I can't wait 'til you see HIMYM. I can't stop giggling about it.

Sure. I've been following those teensie tiny articles buried in the middle of the paper! I was there in 2006 and some monks took me aside, whispering to tell me what was going on. They were actually shaking out of fear of talking to me. One asked if I could email Condie Rice to ask her to send someone to help. After that experience I'm really happy to see that they're strong enough to do this. But if nothing comes of it they will probably all be jailed. I hope something comes of it.

It just makes me so sad that these people want a government that will help them, and instead this military regime just tramples them back to the ground. I'm glad that the monks are the ones leading the protests, because from what I understand, the military is less likely to attack with the monks at the front of the protesters.

Maybe more people will start paying attention now.

The problem is China. They practically own the country and all the sanctions in the world won't offset what they're doing. I see that Bush is bringing things up to the UN... like now it's an issue. It's been an issue for so long and the US hasn't been able to help. I'm finishing up a book on the Rwandan genocide and it's just sad how the US comes in at the tail end and claims to be helping but really just does it to save face. Those aren't the same situations but I see how the US doesn't want to get it's hands dirty when it comes to human rights issues.

That CNN article photo #5 is good. You can see the same street empty in my photo here (http://me-go.net/rtw/gallery/index.php?gallery=./08_myanmar/02_yangon&image=IMG_9240.jpg)

By now it's all over, so I hope it went well. And whee! You're homeowners!
