Today is my sister's birthday. HAPPY BIRTHDAY, [livejournal.com profile] yakgirl!!! For the next three months, my sister is officially four years older than me. This is a great day which should be celebrated with repeated singing of Altered States' "Happy Birthday," as well as much drinking of Smirnoff Ice between the two of us. However, since I do not live on the East Coast and cannot celebrate with her, instead I will celebrate with picspam of things my sister likes.

It's the Fighting Illini! My sister is a huge fan of Illinois basketball, no matter how bad they may get. Hooray for the Orange Crush!

She is also a huge fan of the Sweet Potato Queens. She not-so-secretly wants to be one some day. The Sweet Potato Queens are responsible for the recipe for ghetto margaritas, so let us praise them for sharing their knowledge with us.

This is Hilton Head. Every summer, [livejournal.com profile] yakgirl and her family head down here for sun, surf, biking, and relaxation. She enjoys this very much.

[livejournal.com profile] yakgirl thinks Keith Urban is dreeeeeeeeeeeeeamy. Though I'm sure she liked him much more before he married the Botoxed zombie that is Nicole Kidman. (Nic, what did you do to yourself?) But I digress. Keith is pretty dreamy.

My sister is completely entranced with Spring Awakening. I can't tell you how many times she's told me that I HAVE TO SEE IT when it comes to Chicago. I think she may disown me if I don't. (Sidenote to [livejournal.com profile] yakgirl: if you don't have [livejournal.com profile] bigboobedcanuck friended, you really should. You two can share in the Spring Awakening squee.)

Doing a complete 180, here's John Denver. When we were kids, my sister had a mad love affair with John Denver. I remember driving through the hills of New Jersey (yes, there ARE hills, and they aren't made of garbage, thankyouverymuch), and "Sunshine on My Shoulders" came on the radio. She made my parents keep the song on so she could listen to it and get all swoony. So here's a picture of him with Kermit the Frog, just because.

Oh, Anne. Oh, Gilbert. My sister loves the books, and the miniseries. We'd watch them every time they came on Wonderworks. Did I ever mention that when my sister met her husband, he bore a striking resemblance to Gilbert here, except with strawberry blonde hair? Just making sure.

And while we're on the subject of Canadian things, this is a picture of Kincardine. It's where our great aunt and great uncle lived, and we'd visit at least three times a year. I think Kincardine holds a special place in both of our hearts.

This logo has nothing to do with junior crime scene investigators. It's all about SPEECH CLUB. Or more accurately, Forensics. My sister did Forensics in high school, and went on to coach it when she worked as a speech teacher. This is my sister's passion. Screw teaching English, this is what she wants to do. And she's good at it, too.

Ah, the Portillo's hot dog. Really, any Chicago-style hot dog will do. I think this may be what my sister misses the most about Chicagoland.

Manatees! Sea cows! Whatever! She loves 'em!

And speaking of things from the ocean... This is really random, but it's something I will always associate with my sister. When we were kids, she collected sea glass. She'd find it at the beach when we lived in Florida, or she'd scour the beach in Kincardine for it. Every time I see it, I think of her.

Finally, my sister loves her kids. She also loves taking pictures of them when they're making weird faces.

So that's the birthday picspam for [livejournal.com profile] yakgirl. I hope you have a great birthday, and I hope you know how much I love you. You're a wonderful sister, and I hope all your birthday wishes come true!

OMG, you MUST see Spring Awakening when it comes to Chicago. YOU MUST! Had I not had a really bad February, money-wise, I would have flown to Toronto to see it again. From Vancouver. That's how awesome it is.

Also, yay Gilbert Blythe, manatees, and babies. All very cute.

Yes, yes, I know. Spring Awakening is the greatest musical in the history of everything!!! ;) Seriously, though, I do plan on getting tickets, don't worry.

I am SO GLAD someone else knows that reference. Every time I hear someone say "manatee," I automatically reply "sea cow."

As soon as I read it, I was so disappointed in my own effort. Today marks the beginning of 8 months when yakgirl & I are the same age. Seeing all of those pix made me miss the crap out of her all over again.
