First off, I do not have an appropriate icon for this post. Therefore, I will use Jay Sherman, as I am critiquing a movie.
Here is my one-word review of Wolverine: "Meh."
This movie was just simply okay. The special effects were good, the plot was lacking. The acting ranged from good to unimpressive. Hugh Jackman was fine. I know a lot of people are all "HE'S NEKKID OMG!!!", but really that wasn't enough for me. Neither were his arms. Sorry, but I'm into Wolverine for his "me against the world, I hate everyone but have a squishy center but I'm still going to kick everyone's ass" attitude. And since this movie is set before he gets that attitude, well, it was kind of less than interesting for me. Hugh did well enough with the role, but it just didn't pull me in. I like my Wolverine complicated and angry. Here, he was sad and angry. Not the same.
Liev Schreiber was really fun as Sabretooth. The guy looked like he enjoyed playing the shit out of a bad character. That said, I definitely like the LOOK of Sabretooth much better in the first X-Men movie. Liev, while a great actor, didn't embody the physical character for me the way Tyler Mane did. If you could combine the two, it would be perfect. I loved the way that Sabretooth moved, though. THAT was cool.
As for the other mutants in the movie... Meh? Gambit, whatever. He didn't do a hell of a lot for me. John Wraith? Who, what? Ryan Reynolds was fun as Deadpool, for the four minutes he got to act in the movie. I loved The Blob. But my favorite was Agent Zero, what a badass! I don't care if he was Stryker's minion, he was cool. Also, hello Daniel Henney, I think I may have a crush on you now.
But overall this movie just didn't pull me in. It was okay. Not great. Just okay.
katesti, if you're wondering which to see, save your money and go see Star Trek.
