My coworker C came up first thing this morning and asked if I, or anyone I know, might happen to have the name of a good, clean, cheap hotel in NYC. She said somewhere maybe around by the airport (but those are usually more pricey, right?). Anyway, if any of you have ideas for hotels she should look into, please let me know ASAP. Thanks!

I have no suggestions, but she does know the airports are not actually paricularly convenient to Manhattan, so they'll waste tons of time and money getting back and forth, right?

I certainly hope so. But then again, if her vacation starts tomorrow and she's just getting a hotel now, my bet would be that she didn't do a lot of advance planning and/or research.

When I was there last month I stayed at The Jane Hotel (http://www.thejanenyc.com/) in or around the Meatpacking District. It was $115/night for two of us

The room was minuscule (the length of a set of bunk beds and about a food and a half wider then the beds) and there were communal bathrooms. You can get an en suite bathroom but it is significantly more.
Also, there were some slightly sketch guests, but no one bad or anything.
Cheap, clean, kind of a pain if you have to pee in the middle of the night.

Oh! But it's famous (it's where they took the Titanic survivors, among other things) and it is just a few blocks from The High Line (http://www.thehighline.org/) an old, unused elevated train track that they made into a park. Very cool and pretty.

So, there is my suggestion.

We usually priceline a hotel in NYC-- we've stayed at the Grand Hyatt for less than $100 a night-- it's attached to Grand Central Station. I think he pricelines 3 1/2 star or 4 star hotels in midtown east and puts in $97 or something... we've stayed at the Intercontinental a few times, too, and it's great. We check hotels.com for star level and location, then priceline it and see what we get. I think the most we've payed is $120 (before taxes)-- but that's usually over a weekend-- I think it may be tougher during the week because of business travel. Good luck to her!
